They wanted to know as much about it as they could, so they started by radiocarbon dating some of the stones to figure out when it was built. The results suggested that it was from around 2600 - 2400 BC eliminating most of the people who they thought may have built it. If they know who built it that might of also told them what it was built for, as it would of taken around 1500 years to build with the modern technology in that time. There have been many suggestions as of what it was used for such as 
A place for burial / Sacrifice, as older diagrams show a slaughter stone, A place for healing, A soundscape which was created to mimic a sound illusion, An ancient team-building exercise, A Place Built by ancient astronomers, a place to tell the different seasons of the year and many others. 

In Conclusion, even though Stonehenge has been around for a long, long time, still to this day Historians and archaeologists haven’t gathered enough information to explain the truth about this mystery.
