         <title>I.	Art of the Prehistoric or Ancient Mediterranean (Chapter 3.1) </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>Basic information: </div><div>Artist/Culture- Greek, Cyclades, Late Spedos  </div><div>Date- 2500-2400 B.C.</div><div>Media- marble, originally painted</div><div> </div><div>Mechanisms and explanations:</div><ol><li><strong>Mechanism</strong>- Exhibit will include an explanatory text that says: “Most standing cycladic sculptures like this one were female.  Females were believed to be a fertility figure in the Cycladic islands.  The time and effort needed to produce these sculptures implies that these figures were very important to the Cycladic people.”  </li></ol><div><a href="https://www.ancient.eu/article/457/cycladic-sculpture/">https://www.ancient.eu/article/457/cycladic-sculpture/</a> </div><div><strong>Explanation</strong>- This piece needs a brief text explanation because the viewers would not be able to tell the gender of the sculpture by just looking at it, and the piece makes more sense when it is explained that the Cycladic people valued female fertility.  It reveals details about their culture. </div><div><br> <br> <br> <br> <br><br></div><div>        2.  <strong>Mechanism</strong>- The exhibit should include other sculptures with the same context.  This is </div><div>             an example of another Cycladic figure; this one is clearly female.  </div><div><br></div><div><strong>             Explanation</strong>- Having other female sculptures near or in the exhibit helps give context </div><div>             that there were other figurines like this and that the female body was the theme of these </div><div>             sculptures.</div><div>         3. <strong>Mechanism-  </strong>Near exhibit, have map showing where the Cyclades Islands are in relation </div><div>             to other cultures.</div><div> <br><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>    Explanation- </strong>Viewers of the piece may recall information about cultures on this part of the </div><div>    map such as Greece, the islands, or the Mediterranean that helps them create a better context </div><div>    in their head for the art.  The map shows them exactly where the art is from.</div>]]></description>
