The driving range is one of the biggest issues with EVs today. When compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, the range difference is clearly highlighted with EVs typically having significantly less range than an average ICE car. Because of the limited driving range, EVs are perhaps a headache for owners who want to go on road trips and long commutes because they have to plan out their trips more precisely compared to someone in an ICE car who will not have to worry as much as EV owners do.

Since EVs are still relatively new, the batteries stored in them are big question mark. It is unknown whether or not the batteries stored will be reliable in the long run. Unlike ICE cars, there is no track record to prove the long term reliability of EVs and its batteries. This will create hesitation for buyers, and possibly regret for those who take the risk of buying one now and potentially have problems in the future with their vehicle.

Another key point about charging EVs is the charging infrastructure. Since EVs are still so new and have only recently become more frequent on the road, there is still a lack of charging stations in all parts of the world. When driving an ICE car, you never have to worry about finding a nearby gas station. The same cannot be said about charging stations, especially in areas of the world that are less developed. The scarce amount of charging stations makes it difficult for any driver who might plan on taking road trips or long distance commutes.

In addition, rechargeable batteries could potentially degrade in the future. Battery degradation is already common in electric scooters, and there is no reason why the same cannot happen to EVs. If the batteries degrade, it would also negatively impact the range and overall performance of EVs. Another current concern with the lithium batteries in EVs are that they are potentially dangerous. There have already been multiple cases of battery fires in Tesla's in recent years which is not a good look for EVs.

The already limited driving range of an electric vehicle is not only impacted by the weak batteries, but it can also be impacted significantly by driving conditions as well as the way you drive. There are concerns about the capability and reliability of driving an EV in cold climates and rough conditions. Harsh weather conditions can reduce the driving range by an adequate amount. On top of that, if the driver is someone who drives aggressively and perhaps doesn't treat their car too well, that will also reduce the range even more.

Charging is another big issue when it comes to EVs. Someone who has to fill up their car with gas will be in and out of the gas station within minutes. Compare that to an EV owner who has to sit at a charging station for 5x the amount of time just to get half of the battery charged up. Now of course, there is the alternative to charge your EV overnight if you have a charger installed at home, but not everyone has a garage or space to install an EV charger and they'll have no choice but to take lots of time out of their day just to charge their car.
