How it Began

This revolution started with the Qing Dynasty defeating the Boxers. They started enacting reforms. First, they eliminated the system of examinations for officials and tried to establish both primary and secondary school systems. They also took the first step to creating a new, strong national army. The even elected provincial assemblies, which began to start meeting in 1909. Although the Qing took action in new reforms, it was too late. Radicals living in Japan and the United States called for an overthrow of the Qing Dynasty. They wanted to create a new Chinese republic.

A revolutionist who based revolutionary ideology on three principles-

1. Nationalism

2. Democracy

3. People's Livelihood - involved equality in landownership

Yixian believed that China should be a democracy. He had called for the overthrowing of the Qing Dynasty and wanted to replace it with a nationalist party, who would act as a guardian of the Chinese people until they were ready for democracy.

Qing dynasty general who was chosen to end the rebellion Sun Yixian had started. Instead of destroying the rebels, he negotiated a peace with them which resulted in the Chinese emperor's abdication. After negotiating peace, Yuan Shikai was made the first president of a brand new China The Republic of China.

The outcome of this war was that the Qing Dynasty died off, and never returned, which led China to becoming the first republic.
