I think that many of the basics could be mastered before moving on. As we have discussed in the past, make sure that there is understanding of at least one or two things very well instead of many things very quickly. Maybe not pressing on until there is general mastery of an entire concept just because "the book" tells you to press on due to time constraints.

As far as the PSAT is concerned, I really love that I can see which questions my students struggled with, which informs what we focus on. For instance, if students really struggled with questions that require you to look back to the text, we can focus on finding evidence in class. I also really liked that I can see my incoming 9th graders reading scores. It doesn't show me what they are needing, but it does tell me which students in particular need extra help and which can go above grade-level expectations and be challenged.

In order to support the improvement of the math and reading scores, I plan on having students interact with/analyze scientific reports & articles on a biweekly basis. In addition to this, I plan on having students work on their graphical analysis skillz regularly beginning in 9th grade & working through the 10-12th grade courses I teach.

I appreciate seeing the results and the suggestions leading to improvement. It gives you ideas on how to differentiate instruction to meet the students needs. The content is broken down to the smallest detail of state standards. This is a fast way to reach out to a student's weakness and build from there. I wish my other tests would show this much information. Sam

Also, I taught an 8th grade class last year and saw names in the "Did Not Meet" catagory that surprised me. Some of these students should have performed much better. Why? I'd like for each student to be aware of their scores and their target growth areas. I would like to use some of those test questions after I revisit particular skills with students to assess.
