Theodore finch is a student at bartlett high school who is frequently bullied and picked on for being different. Violet markey is a average girl who suffered a terrible accident a few months before and is mourning the death of her sister. One day they met on the bell tower and since then finch always had his eye on her. The end of the book had me sad. I was not disturbed but just upset but also it sort of made sense. Finches death did not surprise me as much as i might have thought mostly because we knew he was struggling. My thoughts are is that he also knew violet was struggling and I thought he would have stayed for her (especially after her sister dying just a few months before). The author described violets mourning well but i did not think there was a long enough mourning period.

Finch had a lot of change throughout the book. At the beginning he seemed depressed but also content. He wasn't fulfilled but he was ok with the things he had. It just seemed like he always wanted more. In the middle finch's character seemed genuinely happy and glad with violets company. At the end i guess the author was trying to not lead us on but show us that even when people are happy on the surface they can be struggling below too. I thought about that same theme with violet. When she wasn't with finch he seemed so empty and i feel like that wasn't a super awesome representation of a healthy relationship with a mentally ill person.

In the end i tink a good theme is people can be happy on the surface they can be struggling below too because it describes both characters situation. In the end i would read again but not right now. Some books you can re-read over and over again without getting bored of it and i think this book as a whole isn't like that but some sections could be. It is harder to get into but i would never regret reading it.
