Although he works mainly with sculptures, his paintings and photographies are extremely successful.
I admire his extensive body of work and how he can perfectly balance humor, looks and tackyness, which is exactly what I'm trying to achieve in my outcome. I don't want any aspect of the kitsch to overcome other, but have a balance.
His Made in Heaven collection is perhaps my favorite, in which he posed with his wife, a former porn actress, in various Kama Sutra positions. The outcome of this series was many glass sculptures and a few posters, all successfully made.

LaChapelle's glossy scenarios resemble collages, they are very ludic and full of saturated colors. This playful aesthetic is what I'm trying to achieve with my outcomes, so his pictures are a big reference.
When reading his interview for The Guardian I related to the way he feels about the celebrity industry and our materialistic society. There's a great appreciation for the fashion and glamour present in this industry but the downside is the consumerism implied in it. Art may be one of the ways of separating them a little as it's not trying to sell anything.

My favorites shots are definitely the ones containing food like the books Real Food and British Food, I've always been drawn to representations of food and I'm thinking of how can I place it in my project. Food is also culture and an indication of social identity, even though nowadays it has lost it's meaning as the consumption of industrialized food has grown, on the other way a lot of these foods are part of the identity of some cultures as we can see on his pictures of British food.

The retro-futuristic sets and furniture tell a history by themselves. From Alex's and his victim's houses we see modernism elements mixed with pop art with an influence of the mid-century. The  colorful crazy patterns characteristics of the 60's and 70's are always present in these environments as well. 
All of the rooms from the movie can be closely analyzed to find quirky objects.
I think all of Kubrick's movies feature some kitsch, The Shining (1980) which goes by a empty hotel is another example.

His style and his personal brand Golf Wang evolved with his music and vice-versa.
Like his style, his video clips often have a very playful atmosphere, he uses color to set he vibe of the clip.
I intend to produce a ludic outcome in which color will play a big role, so Tyler is a great reference for this.

They usually have a main object, which is easier to focus on because there aren't so many elements distracting from it.
The artist's uses a lot of vintage black and white pictures and mixes them with contemporary images, it's a nice way of combining generations and bringing them together some way.
He also uses color and colored backgrounds very often, which is something that pops out.

Color plays a huge role in his extremely detailed films, the combination of colors serves to support the emotional tone of the scenes and overall movie as each movie has it's own color palette.
His aesthetic is undeniably beautiful and amusing in a way catches the viewer's attention and stands out.

It's very odd to see these women dressed with fine fabrics eating store brought snacks and childish foods like nuggets and snow cones, but it's a nice contrast and very realistic for those who live in big cities and often see people eating on public transportation or park benches.
One of the reasons this work called my attention is because of the humoristic aspect of women dressed in fine clothing eating a cheap snack.

By printing his pieces in silkscreen -much faster than painting - and arranging them repeatedly, Warhol mimicked the mass-production of the objects depicted in his work. He blurred the lines between fine art, commercial art and marketing by transforming those quotidian items in art pieces.
I can see a lot of Warhol's elements in my works, like the repetition and overlapping, saturated colors and use of popular icons. As him I intend to show how the mass-produced items we consume can be appreciated beyond their designated functions, after all they reflect our society, acting both as the mirror and dictator of our behavior.

He just replied them in his dotted and plain style.
Besides his suffering women, I'm very fond of his representations of food and day-to-day objects. I love their literacy and how they are presented, using plain, simple lines.

The way the bed is set up depends on the artist's mood, so even though she doesn't relate to most objects of the installation nowadays, her feelings are still reflected by the way they are assembled. 
 
It changes every time I install it. It gets older, and I get older, and all the objects and the bed get further and further away from me, from how I am now.

As  said by the artist herself, My Bed is an extremely relatable work, who never felt depressed and didn't want to get out of their room for some reason? 
As I'm dealing with objects and homes I expect people to feel the same way about my work, I hope they get a sense of familiarity when they see it.

She is the creative director of most of her videos and in the beginning of her carer she used to also write, shot and edit them. References of the 70's are very present, specially in her early carer.
The quarantine reminded me of Kali's old music videos that were shot around her neighborhood with her friends and her alone in her house.
In Ridin' Round she doesn't seem to go very faraway in her neighborhood as she gets dressed up and shoots with her neighbors. In Multi again she goes around her neighborhood with friends and shoots herself in her bed, it is written, directed, shot and edited by Kali. Table for Two is mainly filmed in a room, with a change of outfits and lighting.
With light, transitions and nice outfits she makes a homemade video look awesome. The video's edit is also fundamental as she inserts images and typography that support her aesthetic.

When rearranging these objects, often in a minimalistic way, the artist addresses consumerism and compulsion.
In Botão, a digital work created specially to be shown on this Pivô platform, the artist creates a video with random shots side to side that she took from the television while playing different movies. Even though this work is different from most as the artist usually creates physical pieces, it is still a collection, a collection of pictures she took. With a lack of description about the work or the artist, the pictures seem to be random, but I noticed that in a weird way sometimes the subtitles in both pictures seem to make sense together or have a subject in common, like numbers or topic.
Collections are fascinating, I have some of my own, but I've never committed 100% to collecting something with a purpose, perhaps it's time to do so.
Inspired by this video, I began to take shots of the news in order to document what is happening in Brazil and how we are managing through this pandemic. Still not sure what these images will become in the future, but for now I'm collecting them.

Various Small Fires got me thinking about the possibilities of doing something similar without even leaving the house.
In some way these books are documental, it would be interesting to arrange some books or zines documenting quarantine in São Paulo.
The minimalistic design of these books and blunt presentations of pictures and titles it's perfect and the simplistic aesthetic would be ruined if they had anything else added to them.

Passing through almost every continent, the photographer spends a week with it's subjects before photographing them in front of their homes with their possessions for a unique family portrait. These pictures can be found in is book Material World and also What I Eat: Around the World in 80 Diets, where he does basically the same, documenting different diets around the world.
When comparing the pictures, the cultural and economical differences are emphasized, through them we can see how distinct countries consume and what they consume, for example in Japan and China the Western influence is very clear when McDonald's and KFC is part of their daily diet, while not very far away in  India there's people who get by with only one meal a day.
It's interesting to see these disparities, sometimes in the same country.

Her use of pastel colors and white highlights resembles vintage dish cloths and antique paintings.
It's unusual to see this type of illustration nowadays, especially handmade with colored pencils, so it's nice to rescue this technique.

Steinbach explores the role of the artist as a collector and curator of cultural artifacts. “We communicate through objects just as we communicate through language,” he has explained.

Steinbach practice deals a lot with the notion of display, I hadn't realize how something as simple as arranging objects on top of a shelf can shift their meanings. 
When taking these random items, being them everyday, ethnic or artistic and placing on shelves (meant to display art) the artist highlights them and invites the viewer to look at these objects in another way.
Taken out of their ordinary space and placed amongst unlike items it gives us a chance to further analyze them and make connections based on our experiences and culture. 
I quite enjoy his view on objects and how they reflect our habits, culture and the way we consume, establishing these relations is what drawns me to working with mass produce and everyday items.

When I saw it on Instagram I immediately saved the post to find more about it.
The artist has many combinations of these funny looking doll faces with different plush toys formats, such as cactus and moons. They are cute while being creepy, which is very kitsch.
These dolls are definitely eligible to be on my collages, perhaps I will ask the artist if I could use some of them.

Rocky's has been into this old school internet glitch style lately, which I enjoy very much.
The comeback of these early internet elements is very interesting. A meeting of present and past internet happens and what was once normal and even annoying if we think about how slow navigating in the internet was back then, is now appreciated by it's simplistic aesthetic.

Thiebaud was related to the pop-art movement mainly because of the banal subjects of his paintings (food, pop icons), but his style was very old school, he didn't have a super graphic commercial style like Warhol or Lichtenstein, but still used overly pigmented colors and well defined shadows.
Still this pastel color cakes and pies are very kitschy.

She has a very playful and unserious tone in all of her work. The video for Mooo!, which is a meme song, was filmed in front of a green screen while she dances and eats fries. It received a lot of criticism because it was poorly made and edited, besides the song being very silly but it was clearly meant to be like that.
Her fun aesthetic keeps her work interesting. it definitely has a surprise effect, which is something I aim to have in my work in some level.

The museum aims to go further from presenting objects and interiors, but also provoke discussions and reflections about the way we live and used to live in the past. It's interesting to see how objects and furniture say so much about how people behaved at the time they were made, besides the other many discussion that can be brought up by analyzing them.
With people having to stay in they are able to transform and develop a new relationship with their homes, the museum is inviting people to talk about that and share their stories and insights about their home lives during the pandemic. At a time where all of our entertainment and recreation comes from home, I want people to rethink the items they see/consume daily and see them with different eyes.

I find the duality present in Nauman's work very relatable, although I feel like I don't address it enough in my practice it's definitely something I would like to bring more into my work.
His neon pieces explore the semantics and meaning of the words that shift when rearranging a few letters. There is a sense of confusion caused by the arrangement of the neons mixed together but also order because of the similarity of the words. These neon works in particular are very pop-artsy as he takes simple words and transform them in visual poetry.

It is overwhelming and illogical, reason why it's function in usability might be compromised sometimes, but it is usually worth it. Bold lettering, vivid colors, misplaced figures are some of the elements present in the manifestation of brutalism.
Brutalism in digital design is a style that intentionally attempts to look raw, haphazard, or unadorned. It echoes early 1990s-style websites.
I've always seen this type of design in musician's websites, like A$AP Rocky and Kanye West. Style and culture magazines often use brutalism in their websites as well. 
I'm glad Henry sent me these links because I've always liked this type of design but didn't know it had an specific name.
I was planning a rather polished page for my exhibition, in which the images would be seen altogether, but the subject of my project definitely asks for something crazier. I'll consider a more raw and humorous design for the page. I'm already thinking about icons and fonts I can use.

The pink color palette is also something I like a lot and it contributes to the cheesy aesthetic of the page.
They use some 2000's elements, like heart and flowery gifs and also their patterned background.
The website is tacky but not super over. The bold font and blinking gifs don't really interfere in the usability of the website. The tackiness is balanced.
I don't mean to build something so over the top that is annoying. My backgrounds are already a lot, so I also want to have balance with the rest of the page.

They speak against consumerism culture, corporations and exaggerated ads. Content is produced in all sorts of media, like videos, illustrations, web pages and printed media. The magazine speaks highly against ads and uses major companies symbols to subvert and mock them.
MindJourneys are several immersive and interactive pages addressing different subjects. They use big letters, animations and interactive elements which make the website very interesting.
Their work is amazing and very important but I don't really mean to make any criticism to publicity in my project. Nevertheless by multiplying the candy wraps and other items that I collect a criticism about exaggerated consumerism and waste can definitely be made. I'll take this thought further but I like the fact that many interpretations can be made from my work.

The artist used geometry to construct the packaging, creating a pattern with the crackers. In 2019 the patterns became a clothing line called Piraquê Wear after a singer used a dress with the Leite Maltado pattern and many consumers requested it online.
As embalagens de Piraquê são ícones e ao longo dos anos ganharam essa pegada cool, por preservar a essência desde a criação.
Since I'm producing patterns, these Piraquê packages have a similarity with my own, even though I'm not using geometry, but randomly arranging my items in a messy way. They could also become clothing or perhaps a book, like Henry suggested.

The way they divide and talk about the artist's life is very successful, it keeps the story light and concise.
It's a colorful website with interactive elements and big bold quotes from Warhol. The colors and lettering resemble publicity.
The content fitting the whole page is a very clever way of showing work, I'm considering doing so to make my images more impactful, but I have to figure out a way of fitting well in both computer (horizontal) and cellphone (vertical) screens.

In his debut collection for Moschino, supermarket meets high fashion, having Hershey's and Froot Loops' dresses.
His design is so over the top it becomes tacky, but either way the celebrities love it. It's funny how a Spongebob jumpsuit can be seen in any fast fashion but Jeremy makes it high fashion somehow.
His designs are examples of how these icons can be applied in places other than graphic matter.

She applies a lot of patterns and layers to the portraits, having signature illustrations that she uses often.
In some of them she goes over the top by adding several elements and many different colors while in others she keeps it simpler, choosing one hue and few patterns to compose the picture.
I love how she adds life and creates a narrative for the picture. It is needed to know how to read a image in order to do so successfully.
Some of them are definitely tacky, but still very contemporary. Perhaps adding some illustrations to my images or exhibition page might work as a fresh element, something to give the eyes a rest from all the noise caused by the packaging.

In her website she has a entire section dedicated to her Museum of Kitsch, where people would submit their tacky objects and she'd post them with a certification of kitsch. The museum is divided by more than 50 categories.
Her website is extremely kitschy. Composed of small illustrated gifs that link to other pages. Alee also adds cheesy popular songs to top of all the tackiness of the main page.
I think these type of gifs that get bigger when you hover the mouse over them are very successful. If I knew how to do it I probably would with my icons. Perhaps I'll search on how to.
