In today's lesson I had to make sure I was confident in my topic idea so I could explain it to other groups and receive feedback/answer questions. My chosen issue is the lack of life skills taught in school and my original solution was to replace Program X sessions with a life skill course. However, after receiving questions and feedback from my peers, I have had to refine and rethink about certain aspects of my solution. For example, one person said I could make the life skills course an elective rather than replacing Program X sessions. I thought this was a great idea and decided to apply it to my solution. Now I am one step closer to developing a strong market pitch.

Today was the day which weeks of preparation has led up to-my market pitch in front of the class. Although I was nervous, I still had to keep a clear head when presenting and remember all of my preparation and the presentation tips which I previously researched. Overall, I feel as though my market pitch was a success. The slideshow was visually appealing but not too distracting, the information I gave was detailed enough for the audience to understand, I kept the presentation short and sweet (so the audience didn't lose interest), I made sure to use my hands and tone of voice to engage the audience, I kept good eye contact and finally, I started off the presentation with a short and captivating sentence. I did the best I could on this project for working alone, and I don't think it could've gone any better (I am proud of what I have accomplished in this time).

With everyone trying to stay isolated from the current pandemic, this first week of school for term 2 is online. This is a big change from my regular learning, therefore I need to keep certain strategies in mind to stay focused and on top of my work during isolation. These strategies include setting daily goals, sticking to a time schedule and ensuring that I reward myself with a break whenever I make progress towards my daily goals. By using these strategies, I hope to make my life in isolation easy, yet productive, and ensure that I can transition back into regular school life in the near future as well.

After identifying a topic which I am passionate about (lack of life skills in the curriculum) and which I think needs change, I am at the stage where I must brainstorm solutions for the problem and how I intend to take action towards that solution. To find the best solution, I will need to apply my creative and entrepreneur-like thinking skills which I have learned in previous action project lessons. This will help me to figure out who my idea will benefit and the objectives behind it before identifying a solution.

This task may have been formative, but it was still important for developing my learning. The task challenged me to analyse a certain issue or topic and do relevant research on it. Overall, this task helped me to develop certain skills which I can now apply to future tasks.

16.2020 Expo

Although the teachers and students who were involved tried their best to make it work, the 2020 expo was not as successful as it was intended to be. Although most of us still got to share our ideas before a winning pitch was selected, the process before the winners were announced was messy. Due to the social distancing rules, this expo was online. This meant that unlike previous years, we had to face tech issues. This meant that some groups didn't get to speak to a judge, some votes may not have come through and the students who were presenting their ideas did not have full control over how much or how little the judges saw of their idea. This resulted in frustration and chaos. Therefore, to improve the expo for the second group of 2020, I suggest that each topic (education, technology, etc.) is spoken about and voted for on separate nights. Therefore there would be less people to worry about and when tech issues pop up, they could be fixed much faster.

When putting together our final product or the video which my group will be presenting to the class, we needed to consider a couple of things. First of all, we needed to ensure that it was visually appealing (to hold the attention of the audience) but also very informative (gave the audience enough information to fully understand what we were trying to communicate). Secondly, we needed to figure out how to fit a great deal of information into a short video/small amount of time. This required critical thinking skills because we needed to analyse what information was the most necessary and how much time we would spend on introducing the problem vs explaining the solution.

In terms of the spin off project, it is important that my group chooses a topic which we are passionate about and gather as much necessary research as possible on the topic before designing a solution. We need to be sure that the solution can cover all of the problems related to the topic, which is why we must understand what those problems are first.

Today's lesson was focused on developing thinking skills like an entrepreneur. I did this by communicating and collaborating with a partner to fill out a booklet of questions, answers and diagrams. Overall, this activity prompted me to gather necessary information, identify the problems within it, come up with a creative solution and reflect on that solution. I hope to apply these skills to upcoming projects in action project and in other subjects.

Before the expo, I must create a two minute video pitching my idea to all those who come across my google site during the expo. It will be the main introduction to my idea, so I need to make sure it covers the most important and relevant information but most of all, intrigues the viewers. To create this, I will need to use my critical thinking skills (in order to analyse which information is most needed to get my idea/point across briefly yet effectively) and other skills which I have gained from the practice pitches from previous action project lessons.

This activity helped to develop my public speaking skills by prompting me to make constant eye contact with the audience and speak in a tone which excited them/made them interested in what I had to say/my product. I can apply the knowledge gained from this activity to my market pitch video.

The survey results regarding my market pitch idea was a very helpful tool when making the final adjustments to my idea. The results allowed me to get a better idea of whether or not my proposal would actually appeal to the public. Responses from the public also helped me to better my idea because I could get an outside view on what needed to be improved. Overall, this gave me deeper knowledge on my topic and it made my idea stronger- which prompted me to be successful in the market pitch. This stage in my market pitch preparation also aided in developing my collaboration and critical thinking skills. This is because I collaborated with others to identify an issue and create a solution. By this I mean, the respondents of my survey were able to analyse problems within my proposal and then I considered their feedback before providing the best solution possible on my end.

This activity inspired me to think outside of the box when asked to solve a problem or create a product in the future or later on in the action project course.
