Indians were oppressed by the British and were unaware of their rights; as a result, they were subjected to inferior treatment. Post-independence, Indians are aware of their rights and they can always seek justice if they feel that they have been mistreated.

3. India was a part of the British colony and not an independent nation so it was not given its due respect in the international circuit. India, now a free country, is highly regarded world wide.

1. Earlier the country was fragmented into several kingdoms that were at war constantly but now ,it is not the case there are laws, peace and now people could stand for their rights unlike olden days .
2.That time people used to suffer tremendously as their jobs were not stable their were greedy kings , wars and climatic problems and people did nothing to prevent them or become safe , this led to loans and rental which also they were not able to return but now , luckily , there are schemes there are quotas that help the people to grow their economic stability .
3. Another major peril that was in the face was education and status of women ; The society was illiterate in the East unlike the West that was on a boom in science , medicine and technology . The first English school was opened in 1800 and the first college in 1817 so India was not that well known on the global level in terms of understanding . Woman were not that independent as they used to be today ; no girl was educated , the woman were burnt when their husbands died ( sati ) !

Three ways in which India has shown difference from the past are:
1. The biggest difference that occurred was that earlier, India was under the British rule. Indians didn't have their own identity and they were the slaves of the British. But now India is a free nation and can take its own decisions without others guidance. We are a sovereign country.
2. At that time people's blind faith in religion was one of the main reasons why India wasn't able to do progress. People were afraid of losing their religion. Nowadays, people are broad-minded and do not believe in absurd superstitions.
3. Life of the common man was very harsh under the Company bahadur. They were made to pay high taxes which left them with no money for themselves. But now we are not governed by anybody. We do have to pay taxes but they are not to high and differ from profession to profession. We the people of India are free and have the right to do whatever we want to do and no one can disapprove to our rights.

1. India was earlier ruled by the elite Mughals and was called the' Fabled Land of Wealth.' But soon after the Mughal rule capsized, the subcontinent was split into small kingdoms ruled by greedy kings who did not take care of the welfare of his people . Many rulers fought with other kingdoms in fierce battles. But in 2018, India is one whole country which abides by its Constitution and the peoples' choice matters the most . The country is governed by an elected government and not by monarchy and stays in peace.

2. The farmers and craftspersons used to suffer a lot as the Company used to appoint zamindars who collected a lot of revenue and not favour the farmers in difficult times unlike earlier farmers who used to favour farmers. The Industrial Revolution had changed the complexity of the weavers as the cheap cotton purchased from India used to go to the Manchester Mill and so it left a lot of weavers unemployed. But now, the Indian government offers a lot of loan wavers and schemes that support the people who are in need of money due to climatic conditions, etc.

3. The problem of illiteracy and caste system was a major cause for the Indian society in being so backward. The caste system had various superstitions like sati , losing the caste if travelling by sea, practice of untouchability, etc. The Indians also never knew about the western studies like physics, english , chemistry, etc until the British arrived. But now India is one of the most renowned developing nation in fields of science and technology. Some people have stopped believing in the Caste system but most

Now India is referred to as the country 'India' and is under one democratic ruling power for a fixed time of 5 years.
2. In 1850, there was no such thing as India- a country, and the people did not have the sense of patriotism. Even in the revolt of 1857 people had come together for their own causes and they did not have a common cause of independence. I t was only afterwards that this developed. But today, we proudly refer to ourselves as 'Indians'' and there is a sense of patriotism in all people who show it in one or the other way.
3. India was not very excelled in technology and science then in 1850, and the advanced weapons the kings had were from one or the other East India companies. But now India is excelling in science and technology and is inventing more and more ways to help human kind. The video in the link below shows this pictorially

India has changed socially, economically and politically since the 1850's century. Some of the ways in which it has changed is:
1. India had been ruled by the British for many decades, and its citizens had lived in submissiveness. They knew that they didn't like being treated like slaves, but they couldn't do anything about it. Now, however, India is a democratic country, where all citizens are given the equal chance to vote and also have personal rights which allows them to speak up for their dignity and self respect.
2. Women weren't given equal opportunities and were considered inferior to men in those times. These women accepted these social differences although they felt cheated and angered by them. Now, women have become much stronger, not just mentally, but also emotionally. They have realized that gender discrimination is not to be tolerated because females deserve to be treated equal to men, whether it be regarding office jobs, sports, housework or anything else.
3. India has also developed a lot in terms of its technology. From an age of 0 electronics and minute ways of transport, it has transformed into an age of laptops, mobiles and airplanes.

In the US, the world’s second largest democracy this right was given more than 150 years after their independence.

2. Just after birth we executed the world’s largest merger and acquisition activity, when 560 small princely states joined (merged) into the Union of India. Hardly any blood was spilt, nor any bullet fired.

3. We have the most number of languages spoken in any one nation; 29 languages are spoken in India, by more than one million people each. Canada almost broke up into two in 1960s because of tension between English and French.

4. More than 1,650 dialects spoken.

1. Earlier, the country was divided and fragmented with kings of each kingdom ruling over their own kingdoms according to their own and different governing ideas. The whole country had different policies in different regions
Now, the country is no longer divided and we stand united as a 'country' and the country is ruled with one major policy.
2. In earlier times, the British made laws simply for their benefit and those laws were unquestionable.
Now, the government passes laws keeping in mind the interest of all the citizens. Also, it is answerable to all questions/objections/interpretations of the laws.
3. Women, during the 1850s, had no opinion, power or voice to support themselves and relied upon others. They stayed at home and did the household work.
Now, they are completely independent and have their own choices and opinions.

According to me the 3 biggest differences between now & then are -
1. People's mindset has changed . Earlier , people were biased and afraid of losing caste and superiority. Caste and religion divided the people . Nowadays , even though some unequality exists , it is not as bad as before .
2. Treatment of women has changed. Women were considered weak and unimportant and were not allowed to take part in elections and such important things while nowadays women have equal laws and rights , are educated and play a major role in the politics of the country and are considered an exteremely valuable part of our society. The practise of jauhar and sati has been abolished.
3. The political system of India has changed.
While india was divided and a colony of the British Empire in the 19th Century ,it is now a democracy and has a constitution.

India Then...India Now

1. India earlier was ruled by the British.
Presently India is a democracy in which the power mainly lies in the hands of the citizens -- i.e. they can elect their own representatives.

2. In earlier times, women were not given enough freedom. Girls were married off at the mere age of 8-10 years. Moreover, they were burnt when their husband died. (practice of satti). However, nowadays, there is an empowerment of women where they are equal to men in all fields.

3. Society in earlier times was divided formally on many parameters: religion, caste, creed, language, etc. Society today is beginning to understand and embrace some of this diversity in a more effective manner. Our Constitution formally does away with such artificial distinctions. As a society, we have striven to rise above these caste based distinctions and are far more equal than ever before.

The difference between pre and post british rule maybe categorized under 3 broad

categories -
1.Political-Prior to independence India was a colony of British empire with queen as head of state.Various princely states of india had to follow the dictates of Viceroy of india who was a representative of british empire.
After independence democratically elected government rules the country as per the constitution of india. All the princely states have been amalgamated in the country and have no identity of their own .

2.Geographical- Before Independence Indian territory extended from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east. Before leaving, Britishers divided India into India, Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) on the basis of religion.
3. Economy- Prior to Independence, India was a poor country which mainly used to produce raw materials to be used by industries in Britain. Finished product was then shipped to India for use. Post Independence, India strengthened its infrastructure and industrial base. Over a period of time, India has emerged as a fast developing economy and software superpower.

The three major differences between India Then and Now are as follows:-
1.Treatment of women
At that time Women were treated unfairly. They were not even give the right to live their life by their ideals.Points proving my point were practices such as Sati,Child marriage etc. that was very prevalent at that time. The status of women's education was nowhere near satisfactory. And even more appalling was the fact that even though they were human beings living in the same place as men as men, putting in the same effort as men were not given the same ,equal rights. However now our society is more developed with an even more modern mindset that promotes women, and presents them with equal rights and opportunities .The education status of women is better than ever with girls topping the boards as well as the UPSC.
2.The people at that time were naive looking only for new opportunities and profit and nothing else.Using this fault in the people's mindset the British quickly gained control by making false promises, beneficial(only to them)schemes and tricking them into giving up everything they had. This innocence led them to get manipulated and become oppressed by another power. At that time they also had neither the power the rights to stand up to the British thus resulting in the same.Nowadays people have both the right to speak up as well as the power. These days if the public or even one person feels that they are getting oppressed they can reach the court of law and get the treatment they deserve.
3.Due to the oppression as mentioned ,India soon became a part of the British colony losing its independence and freedom both. They were robbed of their rights and voice to speak up if they ever felt the need to.They lived without having their ideals to rest upon.As the country broke into parts so did the people. Now India after a long struggle is a sovereign, socialist secular democratic republic as mentioned in the constitution which also grants the right to the citizens with rights assuring them their self respect, dignity as well as the confidence that they are independent and can live a life by their own ideals.Today India stands as a fist not as fingers, against every hurdle that comes in its way. They protest together, they agree together, they live together but most importantly they stand together as one nation.

India has changed a lot since 1850 , here are some diffrences between then and now

1- EDUCATION - Education then was not logical and everything that was taught was not explained , students had to memorize all the information and could not apply anything to their own lives . Education now has changed a lot , the education now does focus on making studying much more fun and logical . Now that many people are educated in India they have the power to think about things from a larger perspective .

2 - RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER COUNTRIES - India did not trade with any country since most Hindus believed this superstition which said that if an Indian travelled across the sea they would lose their caste . Now that people are educated they understand that this superstition is not true , this has helped India to have better connections with other countries .

3 - WOMEN - Women did not have any liberty or any rights it almost felt like they did not have their own life . Their voice would never be heard . Now people are much more open minded and understand the whole concept of gender equality which has definitely developed India as a country . Now women have control over their own lives and their voice is heard unlike before when little girls could not go to school and were married at the age of ten forced to work in the kitchen .

4- FREEDOM - India then was under the direct control of the British which meant that they did not have any freedom . Before the British came to India the kings ruled which meant that their was not any democracy or in other terms freedom . Now citizens play a vital role in electing the government they want and the vision they have for the nation, they choose the life they want to live

Although India is a developing country it is a contributor of the worlds overall development . India is leading science, medicine and technology . India is now a modern , independent , secular , democratic nation .

1.In 1850s, the daily life of people was ruled by religion and priests. The cast system was supreme among the Hindus. Whatever the priests decreed was accepted by the society filling its daily life with utterly absurd rituals.First there were divisions because of religion and then the Hindus were further fragmented by caste. There was no social contact between people belonging to different castes. And nothing could be worse than being an untouchable. They were called polluted and even their shadow was avoided. However nowadays most people do not follow these absurd and meaning less rituals but only those which are being followed by ancient times. Also there no one is declared an untouchable and everybody can mix , make friends and marry each other.

2.Most Indians were illiterate because schooling at that time was really boring as the subjects were ancient mix of Sanskrit and Arabic they couldn't understand, dull grammar, and a few vague subjects.no one had heard about biology , astronomy , physics e.t.c.But in modern times the subjects we study is not vague and illogical stuff. We now live in a digital era where competition is the hardest.
3.over the early years women had no voice, no right and no control over their lives.girls never got a chance to play and laugh as they were married off at the age of 8 or 10.The reason it is also one superstition the an educated girl became a widow faster. Also some people felt threatened at this idea as it was predicted that education would produce disobedient women and the society would collapse. The worst fate of a widow arrived when it was made an unpaid servant or burnt into the pyre with its husband.Although it is different now as women live more freely. they have their right to live, to education, walk under the open sky at their will. they also get jobs, salaries, treatment equal to the boys, are married at their right age an are not made servants or an invisible part of the family.

Our vibrant democracy is for the people, of the people and by the people and we all are proud INDIANS!

2) THEN, brutal practices like child marriage, female infanticide, Sati Pratha (widow burning), discrimination based on caste, sex and religion were being followed rampantly, all of which are NOW punishable offences in, a mature society and country. India has NOW developed on all fronts viz, eradication of polio in public health, modernization of our armed forces which is ranked 4th in the world, highly successful space programme, advancement in manufacturing sector, an enviable Information Technology(IT) industry, an evolving Digital India, women empowerment etc. The beauty of India lies in our ‘unity in diversity’ with 9 prominent religions, 22 official languages and numerous dialects, regional traditions and practices, all of them being mutually respected and adored.

3) Sadly there are many cons too, that we have to work to overcome NOW..…… we have been misusing what is given to us, and have bitterly harmed our India and mother earth. The rapid aggressive advancement has led to global warming, with our busy lifestyles, we have forgotten our national heroes, respect towards our elders and love for the under privileged brethren. But still it’s not very late and we can together become more responsible society towards preserving our nature, spreading peace and harmony, while still progressing with life. Now India is free. Each citizen can do whatever he or she wants to.
2] Women's role -During the early 1800's, women were generally trapped in their homes and would only perform domestic chaos and duties. Nature and the society had given them roles as the home keepers, ethical keepers for the home and the entire society, as well as house wives for their families.Their roles as house wife were to bear children, take care of the young ones as well as submitting to the husbands. Socially, women were considered weaker hence unequal to their men . Some people would compare such a condition as slavery. Women had no control of their lives. Everything was entirely controlled by the men in the society. First, their fathers and brothers would control them when they are still young and when they are married, their husbands would finally control them . But now With their husbands unemployed, women would now take on the role of breadwinner, while the men would take care of the home. ... Men and women's roles in society have been changing for decades now.
3].Infrastructure: Roads,Railways, Communication systems have made significant progress.

Back then, when the future wasn't yet written, there was still a possibility of exchange between cultures. This exchange would not be available when racial discrimination and ‘us’ versus ‘them’ polarities became the norm. It was a time of acceptance and rejection, when class, rather than skin colour was often the over-riding factor of difference. But I guess we did what we did ! So here we are looking back at the past , looking at how time has changed us and our country.

There are many ways by which India has changed, a few of the ways are :

The British came to India in the early 1600s with the aim to do business with the princely states and kingdoms. Instead, they sat on our head and colonised us for a good 200 years, before they left in 1947. And in these years they changed a lot of things about our country. They did some good as well, like help in the abolition of the Sati Pratha. Except they were a little pre-occupied with slavery and the likes of it for most of their time here.Well now no one else gets to decide if when we stops things or how we stop things, because that our choice .After all its our country at the end to the day !

2. The renaming of places and people was not just a British trait. All the colonisers changed things according to their convenience and well, while a few of these places were renamed again after independence, a lot of them still go by their colonised names. However now people have started asking questions. which is the best part of the modern era, people want to go back to their roots . Don't nobody want to be told what to do ! I mean back then nobody could say anything against the British as they were stronger.

3. Much has been talked about the status of women in India , a long time ago she was struggling to achieve a respected position in the society. During that time their were many things women needed to go through , such as child marriage, dowry etc . Girl child was given less attention, less nutrition, almost no education as compared to a male child. Well I
wouldn't say things are perfect now, but I can say its gotten better . Most women can now go out to work, get married at a legal age, they are given good food and education.

There are lots of more things that have changed over the years . But I can't mention them all in three points after all there are so many years to catch up on !

That Time:-
1) Women:-
In those times, women had no rights, no voice, and neither did they have any control over their lives. Girls never had the chance to have a normal, fun-filled childhood, like boys, but instead were married at young ages-mostly when they were eight or ten years old. for the rest of their lives, they stayed in hot, smoky kitchens and in the dim back rooms of the house. Apart from a few women from rich families, no women were allowed to be educated.
2) Government
At that time, whatever rules and laws were passed by the British Government had to be followed without question, even if they were unjust and unfair. The people did not get to say what they felt about the new law being passed.
3) Infrastructural Development:-
At that time, even though their were no high rise buildings, airplanes, electronic devices etc. life was simple and people enjoyed the pollution-free air and the green environment around them.
Now:-
1) Women
Today, women have freedom. They are given the same rights as men. Most of the women in the world are doing jobs. Women are allowed to read books, study and are given, if not more, than equal amount of opportunities as men. Today, their opinions are taken into consideration. Today, they have a voice. Today they have control over their own lives.
2) Government
Today, India is a people's country and they have the right to criticize the government, and, in a way, help the government govern the country in what they feel is the proper way.
3) Infrastructural Development:-
Nowadays, the technology is so developed that there are electric trains, shoes, tablets, airlines and India even has its share of nuclear weapons. But, all of these conveniences come at a price- due to the massive amount of pollution, there are several problems in the environment, and some of them can't be fixed with any amount of technology. While the developments that have happened make our lives easier, they have also caused destruction in many ways and have made India, the world, even, a dangerous place.
