Contrast:
Function: To show how things are different

  • Unlike: If one thing is unlike another thing, the two things have different qualities or characteristics from each other.
Examples
Unlike him, she’s very sweet.
The weather her

  • On the other hand: it is used when you want to introduce the second of two contrasting points, facts, ideas or ways at looking something.
Examples
On the other hand, smoking is bad for your health.


Concession:
Function: Connecting words and phrases to accept a point or idea with reservation

  • Admittedly: this linking word is used to express a concession or recognition that something is the case.

Examples
Admittedly, the food was not great.

Admittedly, the military was already bought even before the coup d’etat started.

  • Albeit: Albeit is a conjunction that means “even though”. It can sometimes be used instead of although,  but it can never be used to introduce an independent clause.
Examples
He was making progress, albeit rather slowly.

We reached the top of the mountain, albeit thanks to the help of God.

Ex: Furthermore, she wasn't stupid.
  • In addition
as an extra person or thing.
Ex: In addition to basketball, he is good at tennis. 
  • Along with
Is used in addition to something or someone.
Ex: Along with being stressful, high level positions can also be harmful to your health.
  • Besides
To introduce additional information we use besides. It connects two independent sentences or clauses.
Ex: Besides a holiday in Paris, the competition winners also recieved 1000€.
  • Also
You use also when you are adding a clause to another one previously said.
Ex: He was thin, and he was also tall.

  • Accordingly: You use accordingly to introduce a fact or situation which is a result or consequence of something that you have just referred to.
Example: He know his limitations and acted accordingly.
  • Hence
'Hence' is typically used in a sentence to show a cause and effect relationship between two parts of a sentence: 'Because this happened, hence this will now happen. ' In this way, it's used in a similar way to words like 'therefore,' 'thus,' and 'consequently.

Example: John passed the bar exam and hence will be a lawyer soon.

  • Due to
This phrase is used to modify the nouns. In other words, due to is used to present the reason for a noun.

Simple Example 1: The traffic jam was due to a terrible accident at the intersection.

In the above-mentioned sentence, the phrase due to has been used to present the reason for the noun traffic jam. The reason for traffic jam, grammatically a noun entity, is a terrible accident. Hence, usage of due to correct in this sentence.

  • Then: it is at that moment; during that period of time.
For example: I spent years    on the dole trying to get bands together and I never worried about money then.
