Our team of researchers determined that a large, fluffy dog toy would suffice - something that is easy for the horse to bite and hold onto.

The fluffy toy was then presented to our test subject, Shadowfax. At the beginning stages, the horse merely glanced at it. Researchers first started simple by lowering the object. Our testing found that the horse would grab the lowered object if we held a treat to it at first. 

As the test subject became accustomed to the lowered object, researchers began dropping the object to the floor, while still using the command ‘fetch!’. Our team found that we needed to bring the horse to the object, take hold of it and then reward it with a treat.
