Decisive factor: Cold War
Initially, the nationalist group PNI led by Sukarno is disorganised and weak. Hence, if not for the cold war, the nationalist would not have attained independence. PNI gained support of the USA due Madiun Communist Coup of September 1948. Also, USA pressured the Dutch by threatening them with the withdrawal of Marshall Aid for the rehabilitation of the Netherlands, and eventually the detch and Republican forces accepted a ceasefire in December 24.

Contributory factors:
1. Nationalist - PNI
They fought for independence .
2. Colonial State - The Dutch
They hindered the process of Indonesian achieving independence by conducting police actions and attempted to reassert their colonial influence in indonesia .

Malaya(Audrey, nichole, javier, Yu Tian)
The roles played by the colonial states and the cold war issues are contributory factors because the alliance was against communism and so the british would thus support them as they were anti communist
The nationalists were the decisive factor that influenced decolonisation because without the alliance , there would be no one capable enough to fight for independence. The alliance showed that there were racial divisions which was what the british wanted. This convinced the british to trust the local leaders to run the country. With the communist insurrection and the emergency of 1948, the alliance was able to deprive the MCP of their motive to fight colonial rule.

The roles played by the nationalists and cold war were contributory factors because the nationalists were presumed to be communists because of the large support from peasants.
The colonial states (USA) were the decisive factor may be considered as the most significant factor as American support for Roxas enabled him to gain support from traditional land-Lords and many middle-class Filipinos, while the peasants supported the nationalists, but were seen as communist by USA. Without USA to support Roxas, he would not have been elected president of the Senate and later president of the Philippines, and the Bell Act would not have even made
