Water Pollution

<problem - garbage thrown into the river>
I investigated Gwangju Stream, a river that originates from Mudeung Mountain. Among them, I investigated Gwangju Stream near Bohyeon Temple, which is located at the entrance of Mudeung Mountain. Gwangju is currently experiencing a drought, so as shown in the picture, the water is dry and the floor of river is visible. As a result, I could see the garbage that was submerged in the water. Because there is farmland and residential areas nearby, there are agricultural plastic, flowerpot, Styrofoam, and cigarette. Why is throwing trash by the river a problem? The garbage thrown away in Gwangju Stream is broken down into microplastics. In summer, Gwangju citizens play in the water of Gwangju Stream to avoid the heat. There are also people who swim in stream. In this process, citizens drink contaminated water. It damages not only humans but also living creatures in Gwangju Stream. The garbage that is submerged and invisible is slowly affecting our surroundings.

<Solution>
First, The government has to place a lot of trash cans on the street. The place I researched is where local residents take a walk, and there is a lot of population movement. But there were no trash cans around. If they place trash cans, people will not throw the trash into the water. Second, regular cleaning of garbage at the government level will help clean the river. It will also reduce the amount of microplastics generated by decomposing trash. Third, schools or various institutions should provide education on environmental pollution prevention. It is necessary to change individual consciousness and awaken morality. If the above solutions are implemented, it will reduce environmental pollution and create a healthy Earth.
