This classic of Czech cuisine is Deggendorf origin. There is a legend connected with this town. It is said that during the conquering of the city by a foreign army, one of the citizens threw a dumpling down the city walls. This dumpling was made of leftovers but the foreign army wondered that the city was still in a good condition and that they had enough food for throwing some down the city walls so they stopped the conquering. Although the dumplings came from Germany, no one could imagine a visit of the Czech Republic without ‘vepřo knedlo zelo’. They say that this dish was invented by a Czech chef in the 19th century.
