This Icelandic/Danish project is a creative and practical tool to promote mutual respect and understanding between participants of all ages through different means of expressions. Each and everyone‘s personal story and culture is point of departure for the encounter. The emphasis is to not only work with aspects of national culture or backgrounds, but also individual interests and those things that matter the most in each and every person’s life.
 
At the workshop an introduction to the project will be given as well as a practical involvement of the participants. 
 
The Flying Carpet is a project where everyone involved should be received with acknowledgement. The cultural interaction, that takes place at the intercultural encounter, should encourage the view that diverse cultures and ways of living life make us richer, rather than seeing it as a cause for conflict. Participants get an opportunity to introduce their cultures in an open and dynamic perspective and their strengths and interests in a fun and lively way. 
 

 What makes you flourish? 
 
At the encounter the physical frames are a bit like a „market“ and participants have their own table/space where they mediate to others whatever makes them proud, what they are good at, their favourite things, places, people and other things they wish to communicate to others about themselves and their strengths. 
 
The slogan of the project is:
When an individual gets to flourish it’s more likley that society or the group flourishes as well.
 
We would kindly ask everybody attending the workshop to bring 1-3 personal things or something that is important for you (photos, favourite books, music, film etc.).

Through a series of hands-on activites participants will  work with their ideas on education in the past, present and most importantly the future. Basic ideas on the student and those components that affect the study process are reviewed and participants are urged to cogitate their own views regarding ideas that will be presented. The work will take place in varied group setting where the focus is on finding a common ground as well as individual tasks where each participant develops their own thoughts on the concept of the future student and the study process. The workshop combines hands-on activites and creative concept work in a group discussion both present and online – all in connection with the why and how on education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

In this workshop we will explore the concept of citizenship and, in particular, what citizenship might look like in the future. We will examine how citizenship has been portrayed in science fiction literature, movies, and television series to assess some of the challenges to our present understanding of the concept and how it might evolve over the next few decades. Finally, we will try to determine the essential aspects of citizenship in the future and consider how our educational institutions can begin to prepare us to be active and effective citizens of the future. The workshop will include group discussions, role-playing activities, and elements of design-thinking to facilitate and promote creative forward-looking ways of addressing challenges in the present.
 
Participants are strongly encouraged to be prepared to share examples of portrayals of future citizenship that they have, or will, come across before the start of the workshop.
 
Some questions that participants in the workshop will address:
1. What are the essential elements of citizenship in the future?
 
2. Who/what is eligible for citizenship in the future?
 
3. If we start altering our bodies/biology, at what point would we no longer be considered a citizen?
 
4. Of what are we citizens in the future?
 
And the key question: What do we need to learn to prepare ourselves to be citizens of the future?
