What impact does end of the story / Jekyll’s story and or conclusion, have on your understanding of the story

For me the end of the story changed my hole understating of it. Until chapter 10 I thought that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were 2 totally different people, and that some how Jekyll had some sort of involvement with Hyde; Which didn't make sense because Hyde was a bad person and Jekyll was a good person, but the ending of the story showed that they were the same person but one was his good side and the other was his evil side. This also made the title make for sense because at first I thought it was called the strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because they were some how involved with each other but after chapter 10 it is evident that is is called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because they are the same person.

I think that Both Dr. Jekyll is the villain of the story regardless if he is in his moral Dr. Jekyll or his evil Mr. Hyde form and here is why. Though his evil side Mr. Hyde is the one committing the crimes I think that Dr. Jekyll should also be considered the villain because In the Book the whole reason that Dr. Jekyll does this experiment is because he wanted to separate his good side and his evil side so the could get the thrill of being purely evil and then going back to being the respectable moral person jekyll is considered. So with this being said it you relizit Jekyll is the real villain because he has allowed him self to commit the crimes by separating his personality s but since they are HIS personalities that means and the books says this that even before he separating them he had the want to do these evil things, Experimenting on him self and creating Hyde was just a way for him to do it without getting caught, So Jekyll is the real villain

While Hyde seems the obvious evil one, Jerkyll is ultimately the villain of the story because of this desire to act on Hyde's behalf to not directly bear the consequences of "Hyde's" horrendious acts.

I think that Jekyll was really the villain in this plot because he hides behind Hyde's reputation and appearance to do bad things. So that's why I think Jekyll is actually the villain here and not just Hyde.

Comparing how the text states Hyde to real life people from my perspective, I can’t say a lot of people do have a Hyde, or at least for me and I believe I’m pretty average. Mainly because the pure evil that Hyde was composed of, down to the physical appearance was extreme. With this said I struggle to find people in my day to day life that have this extreme of a horrible personality ever come to light. Even at people having dark sides they aren’t the same thing as Hyde, because Hyde is created by Jekyll and hasn’t been there his entire life, and Hyde was made to essentially take the bad from Jekyll and store it in another host. That way he doesn’t deal the consequences.

How the use of symbolism enhances the themes of the novel, it shows us how the differences between good and evil are shown by how Jekyll transformed into Hyde. This symbolizes how even though people can be seen as good they have evil desires.

I believe that Jekyll is the real villain in this story, not Hyde. Jekyll wanted to create a whole new persona for his evil desires and thoughts. So when Jekyll's evil thoughts were taken to action, it was not really he committing the crimes, so he wasn't really himself to learn how bad his crimes were. He wasn't really himself, so no grief or learning based on his awful desires. Jekyll's need to have another person act on his evil thoughts proves that he is awful; he could not control his own bad thoughts to the point that he relied on his other self to act on them. Another point to bring up is that if Jekyll realized his wrong, he could have made it right, but no, he continues to make Hyde his heir to his fortune, knowing the evils he could do with so much money.

I feel that another point of veiw would have helped in the understanding department while reading the book I was always extremely confused that was going on the whole time I feel that if we by chance had gotten a pov from Jekyll's butler, poole or jekyll himself we could have understood how dire the circumstances were. Having it all read from Utterson has certain limitations throughout the story, which are interesting, but the author could have added slightly more context while keeping the same effect.

I think Dr. Jekyll is the villain. Mr. Hyde may have done the bad things, but Dr. Jekyll basically condoned them. They ultimately are both the villains, but Dr. Jekyll is definitely THE villain of the story.

Dr. Jekyll is responsible to an extent. He willingly took the potion and knew what Mr. Hyde does and feels, but he couldn't control what he did. Mr. Hyde was responsible for his actions, but without Dr. Jekyll setting him up to do that by drinking the potion in the first place, Hyde wouldn't be able to do the evil that he did.

In my opinion, the villain of the novel is not Hyde himself, but the drugs Jekyll took to turn into Hyde. In Jekyll‘s letter in chapter 10, he said he’d wanted to see what truly makes someone good or evil since he was young. Jekyll then started experimenting with drugs, potions, and other things to turn himself into someone he’s not. Eventually, it got to a point where Jekyll could barely control Hyde anymore. He ended up permanently taking over and killing himself, therefore killing Jekyll as well. In the end, None of this would have happened if Jekyll hadn’t used himself as a subject to an experiment driven by his own curiosity.

I think, based on the information given about Jekyll’s character, he was filled with morbid fascination when he first created Hyde. The feeling of having someone who is totally different and all the same as him might have felt freeing in a way. As Hyde’s character progressed and he started doing more ruthless and violent things, Jekyll became disturbed and fearful. His actions towards the end of the novel certainly show evidence of these attributes. In my opinion, I think Jekyll had a burning hatred for Hyde by the time they died. Whether he let Hyde take over on some level, it was out of his control, Jekyll hated what Hyde had become, and what Hyde had turned into. On the other hand, it’s hard to infer what Hyde might feel towards Jekyll because he basically gave Hyde a physical body to commit violent and destructive acts. As the novel progresses, I think Hyde got more and more greedy. He wanted to cause more pain and suffering, and most of all, he wanted more control. He started over powering Jekyll to get said control. By the end of the story, when Jekyll ran out of whatever substance he used to create Hyde, he also had a hatred for Jekyll. Put more simply, Jekyll and Hyde were two polar opposite beings sharing the same body and that ended up being the demise of them both.
