“But each day since that day I've sat here and worried and worried away. Through the years, while my buildings have fallen apart, I've worried about it with all of my heart.” This quote from the book The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss shows how much the Once-ler regrets his actions from when he was younger. The story shows that if you act with selfishness and carelessness, your actions will have consequences. The story The Lorax is about an old man named The Once-ler who is telling a young boy a story about him when he was a young man and how the Lorax was lifted away. It started with him just chopping one Truffula Tree down to make a thneed. Which was a strange looking piece of fabric that could become anything in the world. Once people began to love the Once-ler’s thneeds, he began to chop down more trees. Soon enough, all the trees were gone and all the animals that once lived there had to leave. Also, when the Once-ler ran out of trees to chop, he didn't have the material to make his thneeds which was a BIG problem. And because the Once-ler chopped down every last tree, The Lorax felt no need for him to still be there. He spoke for the trees, and with no trees to speak for, he left.

One reason for why the book The Lorax shows that actions have consequences is when the Once-ler was chopping down all the Truffula trees, all the animals were forced to leave. For example, the brown bar-ba-loots ate the truffula fruits, but with no trees, they had nothing to eat. So The Lorax sent them away to go find food. Also, without any trees, and with all the smog coming from the factory, the swomee-swans couldn't sing anymore. So The Lorax sent them away too, so they could find a place with clean and fresh air. All this shows that just chopping down a few trees can have such a big effect on everything that thrives in its ecosystem.

Another reason for why the book The Lorax shows that actions have consequences is when the Once-ler ran out of trees to chop, they couldn’t make any more thneeds, this was a BIG problem because once all the trees were gone, the workers that had worked for him all left him because they didn’t have anything to make thneeds from. Also, the Once-ler couldn’t grow anymore trees because everything in the ecosystem relies on each other to stay alive and thriving, and because the Once-ler corrupted that peace, he couldn’t grow anymore trees.

My final reason for why the book The Lorax shows that actions have consequences is how once every last truffula tree was gone, the Once-ler was left truly and completely alone. One example of this is how the trees brought life and peace, and also all the animals were gone so the forest was empty and all that was left there was him and The Lorax.

Also, with no life anywhere, The Lorax saw no reason for him to still be there, and he couldn’t fix what the Once-ler had done, so he left him there, with UNLESS carved into a stone.

In conclusion, the book The Lorax by Dr. Seuss has many more deeper meanings than some might think. And one of those important meanings is how if you act with carelessness and selfishness, your bad actions will most likely have bad consequences.
