Blog 1 Food Groups

Hi!

I am Julia and...

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!!

Today's post is going to be about the Food Groups and how they affect our bodies and how important it is to have a balanced diet. But first we need to understand what they are.

There are 5 different Food Groups and each have a purpose for our bodies. The first Food Group that we are looking at today is vegetables and legumes. Veggies such as carrot and corn, gives us vitamins and minerals which is prime for our health. These minerals and vitamins are crucial because they have essential micronutrients that support immune systems, produce growth, energy manufacture and brace the proper functioning of our organs.

Fruits are also a Food Group. They possess sugar and vitamins. Fruits like strawberries, apple and mango, have a large amount of fructose, glucose and sucrose which is prime for our bodies because sugar is an energy source that our bodies simply can't live without. But vitamins play a different role in our systems. They maintain overall health and ensure that organs and cells perform their functioning correctly.

The third Food Group is lean meats such as chicken, fish and beef which carries protein and iron. This is important because protein builds and repairs the tissue on muscle and bone so they can stay protected. Protein also makes body cells which is needed for basic structure and essentials for functions for survival. The iron in meats makes hemoglobin, the protein is red blood cells that creates oxygen which is used for breathing and living in general.

The next Food Group that we will be discussing is dairy such as yogurt, cheese and milk, which provides calcium. Calcium is needed to keep bones and teeth strong and maintains the proper function of nerves. This is crucial because nerves are send signals to the brain so the body can react to movements and emotions and controls automatic bodily processes such as breathing and digestion.

The last Food Group is grains such as bread, pasta and rice which provides carbohydrate and fibres. This is prime for the body because carbohydrates are a large source of energy that the body consumes to as well as the brain which is needed to work every system that is in the human body. Fibre in the other hand, is the element that helps with digestion and prevents constipation.

Therefore you should aim to have 6 serving of grains, 5 serves of veggies, 2 serves of fruit, dairy and protein per day to have a nice and balanced diet because too much of each will have negative impacts in your body and health.

That's it for today guys. I hope that my blog has helped you understand the Food Groups and now you know how much they impact our bodies.

I hope to see you guys soon :)

Stay tuned for Part 2.

Hi

This is Part 2 of my blog.

Today's post is going to be about macronutrients which are carbohydrates, protein and fats and why they are important for our diets.

Macronutrients provide a large amount of energy source for the body as well as regulating hormones, repairing tissues and the production of hormones. They are crucial for our every days lives and movement such as sport as they provide energy for workouts, fuel muscle function, supporting muscle repair and growth and help in the overall recovering process. You can get macronutrients from avocados, nuts, beans, lentils, potato and oats. A meal that provides all this macronutrients would be a burrito because there's rice beans, guacamole and meats that cover all the nutrients that are good for your body.

These macronutrients have a large impact on our wellbeing and health because they aid in keeping our physical body in shape as well as your mental health when it feeds your brain enough energy and nutrients so the rest of your body can work.

But having too much of each is a negative impact on your overall health. If you have too much sugar and have it as your main source of energy, you will face drawbacks such as heart attacks, diabetes, obesity and in same cases death. So its prime to make sure that you have enough of each and not overload so you can have a happy body and mind.

That's it for today.

Stayed tuned for part 3.

Hi

This is the last part of my blog which is going to be about providing a summary table about Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and why its important to follow this guide.

This image sent above is the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. In this picture they are promoting the right balanced diet that every Australian should achieve for a healthy body. In this poster they have presented the food sources for vitamins, calcium, protein, fibres, carbohydrates and minerals. They have the data shown as in a plate and the portion sizes are what you should have in size for your meal every day. In this model its certain that the promotion for healthy eating is guided correctly and easily shown because you can view the amounts of what you should eat and what you should eat to have your balanced diet. I believe that the model could be improved by explaining why some food amounts are larger than others in a meal. I believe that if they had provided this information it would make the viewers understand the model better and why they should follow it.

That's it for today. I hope that my blogs about healthy eating have informed you more on how to have a happy body and mind and I hope that you take all the key points into your daily diets as well.
