A Day in My life

5/7 days in a week of mine seem very similar if you ask me. 9am to 5pm classes, revision until midnight and occasional breaks for meals are the simplest way to describe a day in my life. College life can be tough and overwhelming but a very wise time management skill would do a lot of change for the better but I'm not saying I have mastered this skill. This incorporates how we divide our time to do specific tasks because I am the worst at multitasking and rumours has it, multitasking is the last thing you want to do when it comes to the quality if your work. Everyday, I wake up around 6 am to perform my Subuh prayers and I proceed to getting ready for college as the earliest bus departs at 7.30am which is devastatingly early, so I take the 8.30am bus, which leaves me only 30 minutes before the 9am class starts. Yes I know, I'm not a good role model for a student but I'm trying my best to really improve myself. Being a very typical student, I skip breakfast and by lunch break my head cannot think of other things except for food thus I will never miss lunch. Prior to the 2pm class, I perform my Zuhur prayer at the musolla (prayer room) because God's blessing is the real deal here, not gonna talk much about that. My day in the campus usually ends around 5-6pm which I'm not going to lie, I'm dead on one's feet by the time I reach my hostel. Most of the time, I end up in my bed and the next thing I know, it's already 8pm. Half-awakened, I perform my Maghrib prayer which probably going to coincide with Isyak prayer and again I'm trying to improve myself. After that, I shower and freshen myself from my toxic behaviours and problematic thoughts. Hoping I would focus on studying until 12 am, I will always disappoint myself because the minute after I am ready to revise and study, I will find myself on 3 days ago posts on Instagram, which I already liked and the weird memes on Twitter. I mean, if you want to talk about social media addiction for your case study, I am the best subject to have a research on. Anyways, I usually sleep at 2am and that is really what a day in my life looks like. Thank you for reading!

This week is quite different from the others, because on Friday my friends and I went to Paradigm Mall to celebrate Aida's Belated Birthday. D'Italliane is the lucky restaurant her boyfriend picked to be having us paying such extravagant meals!! Aida's friends were there too and I'm so glad that I met them because it was so fun although I just met them for an hour. So I had a plate of Smoked Duck Risotto and I had never been so full. I thought it would be like the typical fancy restaurant stereotype where you paid so much for a tiny meal but on the contrary, my meal is so worth the price I'm paying for. Not only it tastes so good, they gave me a huge portion of it. The amount of cheese they put is more that what I had cheese in my entire lifetime. Okay maybe I'm just exaggerating but my meal was extremely cheesy and left me thinking, "Italians really do love their cheese". To top it off, her boyfriend brought in a chocolate cake with lighted candles erected and we started singing "Happy Birthday" song to her. I would be lying if I say that I won't eat the cake because yeah, I was full, but that doesn't mean that I wasn't drooling over the cake! I ate 4 slices and an extra big slice of the cake. The end. Thanks for reading

Best friends are really the same person. Want to know why I said that? So last week, in the midst of a gloomy Monday morning class, I thought of having a day of eating out. The day I could just, eat. Of course I didn't want to do it alone. I picked up my phone and sent a text to my friend who was having class too, I presumed. He's in Management & Science University and currently doing Foundation in Science leading to MBBS. The second I was about to hit 'Send', he sent me a message of him wanting to go for food hunting, and I was totally flabbergasted! It turned out, us both finished our class at 1 pm on Thursday, so we headed straight to Subang Jaya after our class finished. I saved my money the whole week to splurge on that very day, so I budgeted around RM 50 for food. The thing was, I was so scared I would not be satisfied but at the end of the day, we know how Satan works. Butter Chicken, Tom Yam Steamboat, Taiwanese Fried Chicken, Bubble tea, Thai tea,.. you name it! Maybe this is not for the best for my health, but I had the best day of my life, period.

Having bad skin is such a pain. I had my appointment with my dermatologist last Saturday in Kuala Lumpur. From Cyberjaya, I took the ERL to KL Sentral at 9 am and I arrived at the clinic around 10 am. As per usual, I was late to my appointment. Panting, I went to the counter and took my number. The card had the number '16' scribbled on it with a blue marker, and without any hesitation I asked the nurse, "What's the number now?" and she replied, "Oh, the doctor is not here yet". I turned around and saw a huge crowd of patients waiting for their number to be called out. From babies to elderly people, they patiently sat on the worn-off cushioned chairs, with all sorts of conditions of their skins. "You can sit in the next room if you'd like", the nurse interrupted my observation. The freezing handle of the door somehow woke me up a bit from my morning trance when I opened it and headed to the room the nurse was talking about. The sound of the television loudened as I approached the room. "Thank God I brought a sweater", I thought as snuggle myself into the leather sofa. An hour has passed, finally the nurse called out my number and I got to meet my doctor. After I collected my medications, I feel like eating, as usual. So I called one of my friends who is studying in KL to join me for lunch. Fortunately, he recommended me to go to a restaurant in Petaling Street, named Leaf & Co. I hesitated at first because I heard "Petaling Street" and "eat" in the same sentence, but he proved my spoiled brat thought wrong. The food there was so good, I wanted to go there again next time. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of Petaling Street, this restaurant is like an oasis of serenity and calmness. The ambience is best suited for a tropical country like ours. The restaurant made use of natural lighting at the very best. They even have a tree in it! And the food.. don't even start it. I ordered Chicken Chop with Spaghetti but with their special sauce. And we ordered s'mores too! Okay that's it for today. Thank you for reading!

My Favourite Quote

This is a quote from my favourite painter, Vincent Van Gogh.

“Let’s not forget that the little emotions are the great captains of our lives and we obey them without realizing it.”
― Vincent van Gogh

I came across this quote as I was reading the autobiography of him. This quote was sent from him to his brother, Theo.

We tend to follow our emotions as they govern most of our decision-making. Emotions are the name of a complex psychological state, which involves three distinctive factors—an expressive response or behaviour, a subjective experience, and a physical response. Emotions can also be defined as judgements regarding the degree to which your current condition meets your desired goals. We can express our emotions in a lot of ways. Emotions are broadly divided into two types, positive emotions and negative emotions. Positive emotions include care, friendship, satisfaction, happiness, joy, understanding, love, etc. On the other hand, negative emotions include sadness, anger, hate, frustration, greed, envy, etc. We often assume that we think from our brains but people act on impulse rather than making rational decisions. Some people give more importance to logic and facts, while others think with their emotions. Thus, some people are more emotional than others. People who are more emotional make most of their decisions based on their emotions rather than facts. This proves that all decisions are ruled to some degree by emotions, from small decision like buying a toy to big decisions like investing in a business.

So, by implementing this quote in our daily lives by thinking before we act, we can make a huge difference in the quality of our lives if compared to when we decide solely on our emotions.

My 5 Year Plan

Hi future me,

It has been 5 years since you wrote this. I hope you are doing fine with your studies. After all of those bumpy roads you’ve taken, its time for you to set back and enjoy what God has given. I may not be feeling grateful for what I have now, but I’m very sure you are. How’s 2023 going? Any progress in world peace? Are we still cutting down trees? Global warming? I’m not surprised if it’s getting worse. Is Malaysia doing well? How about our currency? Anyways, just in case you have lose hope in life, just so that you know, I believe in you. Don’t give up because I haven’t. You must continue my legacy until we both die. Unless if you kill yourself, but that’s another story. Here, I’ve made what our life would look like in 2023. I guess you are in your 5th Year MBBS programme? Your final year! The syllabus is crazy isn't it? I know. You have tons of things to do. Studies and practicals are taking over your life. But I’m very sure you know how to manage your free time well with our parents and our friends. Are my friends still yours? I believe they still are because I think most of my friends are true friends. Real friends. I’m planning to pack my bags and travel the world. I mean it depends on how things are going. If the situation is encouraging, I could go all around the world, particularly Italy and Spain and Greece and Turkey... urgh basically all European countries there is! Those countries are so beautiful! I hope you have found your special one. It's not that I'm forcing you to have one but it's okay if you're still not ready or maybe don't even bother to have one! Focus on you first, and then you can focus on other things, okay? I'd like to have a nice car in 2023. What's in the market by then? Apple Car? I don't mind if you can only afford Proton Axia. It's still a car, right? Oh, I almost forgot, I really want to go to a Taylor Swift concert. I don't know you're still a "Swiftie" but just in case you forgot, last year (2017) she just released her new album, Reputation. I wonder what album she would release in 2023? I can't wait! I think that's it for now. I don't think I have much planning in my head for the next 5 years besides studying. I hope you're happier and healthier! Don't bother about your feelings, they are just there to make you overthink at night. So, it's good to let it loose and just don't think too much! I really hope you're going to be better. Because in 5 years I'll be reading this again and don't you dare cry on me, older me! I can assure you, everything's going to be alright...

A Great Article

I have found an article that really stood out to me as it is very relevant to the age and society I am living in.

https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/news/20131216/experts-dont-waste-your-money-on-multivitamins#1

This article entitled "Experts: Don't Waste Your Money on Multivitamins" is about the connection of health supplements and its effects on our body. While diet is the key to getting the best vitamins and minerals, supplements can help. For instance, if you’re doing your best to eat healthy foods but still are deficient in some areas, supplements can help. For example, it has been proven that Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils are essential nutrients that are important in preventing and managing heart disease. However, only patients with chronic heart disease portray the extreme need to take these supplements. Healthy and normal people can have their fish oil intake by eating fishes, obviously. Some multivitamins out there may not contain as much nutrients as they promised. So they have little to no effect on our health at all. Some, on the contrary have too much nutrients which can lead to kidney and liver failure in a long run. So, it's not important to take health supplement as your daily routine. The only important thing is to ensure you have the right amount of nutrients in your body, suitable with your needs.
