My entire master's program in Curriculum and Instruction was centered within a Social Justice framework. I spent almost three years in that program, reading, reflecting and mapping out my vision for teaching and learning. I am a Black woman who grew up in a relatively diverse suburb of Chicago and attended a PWI for undergrad...what had I not already experienced in the way of social injustice, racism and sexism? And yet none of those experiences, dozens of books read and hundreds of journal articles annotated could have adequately prepared me for the inequities and political land mines I would face as a district level administrator in S. Florida.
