I was eight years old and my father was in an accident and my mother had to go be with him so my uncle came to take care of me and nobody would tell me what happened. I felt abandoned so I began eating and felt comforted from this but after being 375 pounds at 17 it was hard. I recently quit some addictions and unhealthy habits by using meditation as a coping skill instead of food I have transformed my body and my mind it has been a blessing and I am 60 pounds lighter and feel amazing.

growing up I lived in a very abusive household with my mother and step father + siblings. this lead to poor decisions of who was in my life. there was a really bad accident that happened one morning in result of my mom using and left us in the hospital for a while. after that I moved with my dad and he showed me love, caring, and how to break out of my shell. since being with him I feel healed and reborn, im academically better along with mentally better than I ever was prior to being at the other household. i owe a huge thanks to my dad and bonus mom for helping be become the person I was always scared to be and treating me with such care. i've even found someone who is so gentle and loving despite all my problems and trauma i might come with and never makes me feel unloved, so also thank you to my sweet boyfriend. I never gave up hope and understood time would heal all and I can happily say that as of the last 2 years i've had a relationship with my mother that I yearned for as a child and feel so loved all around. moral of the story is to not lose hope and surround yourself with those who bring you joy rather than harm.

Recently, I have been more independent but grew up/still am in a very abusive household so being away is very comforting as I get to live less in fear however most of the behaviors I do I realize stem from emotion style coping mechanisms where I tend to act out either in fear of my family's response or in excitement that i'm no longer in their control. This can be with staying up, eating certain foods, going out late or other things that are more distraction based on what is truly going on but I do tend to be an avoidant style when it comes to difficult things as they can cause a lot of stress. Something I am constantly working on.

In 2021, I found my oldest daughter (24 years old) overdosing from the worst substance on the streets. I immediately went into problem-focused response, got on the phone with EMS, and began trying to get her to wake up and get a Naloxone. Because I went to the appropriate response I was able to save her. My education has not only given me something rewarding to focus on, but it has also benefited me in these situations!

I have used oversleeping and not being present before as a coping mechanism. Although both of those things are not necessarily harmful I was using them to think address and think about stressful situations in my life. Longterm was that I became really not present in my life and I was numbing a lot of my emotions. This kind of showed itself as depression but I really wasn't depressed. I just didn't want to feel. Now when I have stressful problems I try to practice yoga or meditation. The difference being the connection they provide. Having select times for meditation has been proven really unseful

My mother recently had a relapse with her addiction. I can say that

I have dealt with this my whole life so I do have some experience

with effective coping mechanisms. Most recently, and how I always

have operated is very calm. I feel sheer panic in the moment but

I like to focus on my body and relaxing every muscle and slowing down

my brain. This allows me to function more effectively and also quickly.
