Social media has grown massively over the years in fitness and health. For example, a motivating factor. Most people after a long working day can fine it rather difficult to go to the gym when it is horrible weather, time consuming and struggling to find dedication to go. Whereas if you were scrolling through Instagram or YouTube and there is a workout not only for free, but you could just play without leaving your house and saving time it would appeal or could be more ideal for that induvial.

Having the accessibility could also be an impact on the social media’s growth, as working out or excising can need a purpose for some people. For example, an inspiration. On nearly every social media platform there is some sort of inspiration or motivation for people to see, read and look at 24/7. Some people not even realising it that it is information on ways to improve your physical wellness and fitness.

'Home is the new gym: Exergame as a potential tool to maintain adequate fitness levels also during quarantine'
This investigation took place as with the outbreak of coronavirus and being confined to homes, an increase of sedentary behaviour would be seen. The aim of this investigation was to find alternative methods of home-based physical activity - the alternate method of Zumba Fitness Rush compared to its in person Zumba Class. 20 participants took part who were college students and randomly performed 2 experiment 60-minute sessions, one of Zumba Class and one Zumba Fitness Rush (an active video game). Physiological factors were measured including heart rate, VO2, RER, MET, and EE; alongside other factors RPE and Enjoyment. Results show heart rate increased more doing a real Zumba class compared to ZFR. MET and VO2 also showed the same increase. Conclusion was ZFR could be used during lockdown to maintain physical activity as it falls into moderate-to-vigorous activity, however, a real class provided higher cardiovascular and metabolic responses.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted sport and events greatly with a shutdown of leagues and the postponement of events like the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. However, new media technologies, such as social media platforms, have provided an avenue for sport organisations and athletes to continue to engage with their consumers and promote physical activity during the absence of live sport."
"Global restrictions on public gathering and social distancing led the sport industry to grind to a sudden halt."
These two quotes from this article are telling us that the Covid19 had a big effect in the sporting/fitness industry rather rapidly. although social media platforms did help us.
"Due to this impact, at home workouts became the new normal due to the lack of other options and to minimise the spread of the disease".
Working out and excising from home became a big part of Covid19 as that's what people had to turn too. Social media impacted on this as personal trainers, fitness trainers, coaches, online fitness business etc had to steps up and deliver this to the public.

"Social media use is one of the most popular online activities, with approximately 2.95 billion people using the various platforms in 2019 and an average consumption time of 136 min per day (Statista, 2019). These numbers have dramatically increased during COVID-19 across many countries with people utilising social media platforms to connect with each other and keep themselves informed".
This quote explains to us the social media was already a big part of the fitness industry but it grew even more due to Covid 19.
