2) All chewing gum except for therapy uses were  allowed in Singapore.
3) Singapore thought that too many vandals  were disrupting the public transit system.
4) The ban came into effect in 3 Jan 1996.
5) chewing gum was made of a substance called chicle mixed with flavourings. Chicle is a latex sap that comes from the Sapodilla tree. In other words, chicle is a form of rubber. Just like rubber bands don't dissolve when you chew them, neither does chicl.

From train doors to the tracks and the pavement, this 'thing' is just everywhere! As if the situation wasn't bad enough it still takes a lot of money to remove the dried gum. BUT... not all gum is bad. It also has its good side! Those types of gums are usually prescribed by doctors and is usually used for oral cleaning and therapractic uses.
