The decision for a world trip

"We are going on a journey around the world." - a phrase that is easily said and behind which there are so many thoughts, because the decision to travel around the world is usually a long process. Where in this process I am and how and why we have decided on a world tour that we will plan from a long hand, I would like to tell you in this first article a longer series.

Should I dare?

But there is so much against it.

A world tour offers opportunities.

I have decided!

World trip, I'm coming

As slot machines become more popular, the themes as well as the roller concepts have changed to ensure that they are still interesting and entertaining. Most slot machines in Norsk Casino are based on rotating reels where various combinations of symbols in the game trigger an event.

Important points in the decision for a trip around the world

When I read travel blogs by world travelers or talk to people in my environment, I get the feeling that there are only two groups of people. Some propose the thesis that any everyday life in a "normal" profession would only be a "hamster wheel", that one had to leave to be free and to enjoy life. The others, on the other hand, think this is nonsense and would never think of taking the risk and leaving the job, home and everyday life behind for such a journey.

"If you can dream it, you can do it."

- Walt Disney

And in between? Is there nothing? I can not make friends with either group. I like my everyday life. I have family, a son, responsibility. I enjoy my job. As a software architect, I earn good money in medical technology, have a certain standing in my company and would probably be crazy if I were to give that up from day to day.

But there is so much against it.

On the other hand, I also like to travel and would like to fulfill the dream of a trip around the world. Maybe even "get out" of everyday life and let my life drift in a different direction. Because 40 years to pension in the same job is certainly not what I set as life goal. But is that really as easy as many digital nomads preach? Just quit, give it all up and live your dream?

What strikes me when I read such unilateral phrases is that the majority of these supporters of ultimate freedom are either very young or come from jobs that are no fun for them or - let me say - cautious nature or otherwise also not in a very well paid area. Of course, such a decision is easier if you have just graduated, still has no children and not just earned several thousand a month in a job that makes you fun at the same time.

And honestly, how many bloggers and dropouts do you know who, just one or two years after their trip around the world, are just as optimistic and convincing about this point of view? Of course, there are those. But the broad masses of world travel bloggers disappear again without sound and sound from the scene. Yes, I know, that is very exaggerated, but is not it really true?

Decision for a world trip

On to new horizons!

A world tour offers opportunities.

Of course, nobody can take away the unique experiences that a trip around the world brings, and presumably they will consume them for many years. Such a world tour is of course an incredibly exciting and beautiful adventure. But who can actually live on it 3 or 5 years later?

Is not it really more the case that many of them subsequently pick up on "this everyday life", which they have demonized so loudly before? Maybe not in the same boring office job as before. Maybe in a new industry, as a consultant, with more confidence and quite as a "different" person. But finally, after all, "back in everyday life" arrived. Some of the blogs I tracked before or during such trips have some momentum shortly after the trip ends, but soon lose themselves in the nirvana of the Internet for lack of new content or perhaps lack of time.

But, to make a bow to the other group, is it better not to try?

To demonize any risk beforehand and to suppress any latent dreams or to persuade oneself, later in old age, "after work" to catch up on all this? I do not think so. What use is the money, the time, when you are at retirement age, perhaps no longer in a position to undertake such a journey? Do you actually feel like doing that at all? I doubt.

"In twenty years you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than the things you did. So throw the lines. Exit the safe harbor. Let the trade wind blow into your sails. Explore. Dreams. Discover. "

This is the story of our trip around the world If you are interested in traveling with your own vehicle then this is the place for you. We broke off our tents in Germany, Bavaria in 2013 and have been traveling with an expedition mobile since then, which we largely built ourselves in 2012.

After five and a half wonderful years in South, Central and North America and a 3-month break in Germany, we are back since February 2019 to explore Asia, Africa and Australia. Every 4-6 weeks there is a new travel report. Today you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Travel reports from 2013 to 2018 are in the respective archives, or by countries from A to Z. Further information, videos, routes and accommodation can be found in the drop-down menus for German or English.

We are happy if you accompany us virtually on our journey. Have fun reading and watching pictures.
