Usrah is the Arabic word for family. Arabic connotations of the word include a protective shield, and individuals joined together for a common cause. A religious educational activity, the Usrah group or “circle discussion,” has been cited as an effective educational method with deep roots in Islamic religious traditions. The term Usrah is interchangeable with “study circle”, or Halaqah. The social definion of Usrah has expanded to mean supporting and helping the individual to develop a better life by understanding and practicing Islamic teachings and values.
In this regard, the Usrah group is formed through participation with a group of people who share common characteristics such as the faith, beliefs, and values of Islam.

Through Ta’aruf, group members will get the opportunity to learn about each others’ background, behaviors, personality, and identity beside allows members to expand their personal knowledge and skills by observing others’ behaviors.

Tafahhum: Understanding One Another

Tafahhum refers to the development of mutual understanding among group members. Members actively engage in group discussion and share their personal experiences, problems, and life struggles while striving to develop empathy, love, and care towards each

other. To achieve real understanding of each other, group membersare encouraged to accept and acknowledge each other’s weaknesses and strengths.

relationship between and the cohesiveness among group members. Through the implementation of Takaful, group members support and help each other in making life decisions, share difficulties and burdens, and support each other without expecting anything in return.
