One day he followed her until he reached the banks of the Ladón River. Syringe, desperate, asked the naiads for help and these freshwater nymphs turned her into a reed. Pan, who had seen her disappear on the riverbank, heard the sound of the wind whistling through the reed and felt that it was the nymph crying.
