In the novel Year of impossible goodbyes the theme ¨hope carries you through¨ follows the book by sookan and her family having hope that one day the koreans will escape the japanese however long it takes and their rules and their tourture.Sookan and her grandfather had believed that their Korean culture will be revived again and they will be able to express themselves again. However when she lost her grandfather she started to lose hope. Then when the Japanese lost to the Russians they started to have more hope that they will be free and have freedom in their lives again."The war is over!Japan has lost!" is when the hope they had of being free had started. However that's also when they thought the russians wanted to help them out but they turned out that they wanted power like the japanese.Sookan and her family have gone through many challenges and they continue to fight and overcome obstacles because they still have hope even through the toughest times and the most saddest times. When he mother got taken away and it was only herand inchon left they had no hope until a man helped them and gave them direction to cross the 38th parallel to south korea and as they overcame some challenges on their way there they fought and had hope that they would make it and be free and they did ,and in the the end they were free at last.

Currently in the world that I have heard of is that the earth's pollution is getting bad and that a lot of animals are losing their homes and a bunch of trash has been getting into the ocean polluting the water and hurting sea animals. Not only has there been pollution in the water but also in the air along with nature.People don’t realize that littering trash on the floor can hurt our planet, animals homes, and their own homes. In the attached newsela article it says ”Pollution is cutting short the lives of millions of people every year-call of action”.Pollution is hurting both humans and animals however with hope and a little help from the community we can all make our earth a healthy green place.Having hope that we can pick up and prevent trash and pollution. An example of what hope can do and teamwork is when it says in the article ”Almost 300,000 miles — a third of the world's coastlines — will be unpolluted. And on top of that, $18.6 billion will be invested in anti-pollution research and innovation.”Having hope that we can do it and we can stop it and make earth a happy healthy place is enough to make it happen.

I can relate to this theme in many different ways.Having hope can help me and has helped me and carry me to success or to learning a lesson in life.Me and my family all have hope that my oldest sister will make it from ecuador to america and be reunited with us after her whole life being separated from my parents. We are all hoping that she will make it safely when she travels through foot because she cannot by plane but having hope is helping my family and I by helping us stay positive and believing that the best will happen.

Over the past 2 years my school(hackensack middle school) went through a pandemic with a contagious disease called coronavirus that could sickly harm the human body that causes someone to pass away.Teachers and students were sent home and were told to learn to teach remotely through apps like zoom and google meet to teach the kids virtually. At first everyone was excited to have no school but as it kept going everyone wanted to go back to school, they were tired of staring at a screen for more than 6 hours for school.Everyone was hoping that they would return to school and everything to go back to normal but as covid cases were raising they started losing hope. However as doctors were giving vaccines for covid ,school administrators said kid can return but masks were required and so was social distancing.Kids and teachers had hope that they would return one day and now everything is pretty much back to normal.Hope carried all school staff, students and even parent through the pandemic.
