Addiction to Technology, especially Video Games

Since I was a child, I have a computer. My brother likes to install some games on the computer and play it. So I often play those games too. Since then, I've been using a lot of time playing games. Since then until now, I've been addicted to Video Games.

There are a lot of people nowadays who are addicted to technology. Nowadays, technology is really inseperable from us humans. Technology brings a lot of advantages to us, but it also has disadvantages, and one of them is addiction.

Some people use the technology to have some fun. That's one of the reasons why Video Games exist. But there are a lot of people who are addicted to Video Games (including myself). They always want to have fun, so they usually keep playing and playing until they're bored. But nobody wants something boring, so Video Games Developers always make their products more and more interesting and exciting. And that makes the people addicted to Video Games – who are usually called Gamers – just never get bored and keep playing and playing without minding how long they've been playing. This is why a lot of people are addicted to Video Games.

Personally, I don't really know how to solve this problem, since I'm a Gamer itself. The only thing that I can recommend is managing your time so you can keep track how long you've been playing.

Down here is a screenshot of a Video Game I like to play called Team Fortress 2.

Addicted to online shopping

Online shopping is the activity or action of purchasing things on the Internet
<var>
</var>
Nowadays, online businesses always seem to know what we want and how to nudge us toward their shopping carts, even when we are just browsing on facebook or searching for something else. That pair of shoes you looked at last week pops up in the corner of your screen like a stealth shopping mousetrap. Shopping online can be as easy as click, click, buy. But if you don’t watch out, it could become a habit that wrecks your finances.

Targeted and sponsored online ads are trying to capitalize on a concept that scientists call “cue-reactivity,” or excitement from shopping cues. In order to get us to press the buy button, businesses first must grab our attention and then make us interested enough to click on it. This momentum depends both on how excited we get when we see the item and also whether it can cause a craving, an irresistible desire to purchase.

It’s no surprise that online shopping cultivates satisfaction in people who like a ton of variety. Plus, online stores never “close.” This can lead to more regular cravings for shopping.

People who feed off immediate gratification are drawn to online shopping, where purchases are one click away. The quick satisfaction feeds into the cycle of cravings and rewards.

But if you're thinking, "Wait, I like all those features of online shopping!" (and the popularity of Amazon suggests that many of us do), it doesn’t necessarily mean you have an online shopping problem.

Signs

– The person cannot stop online shopping online. In fact, even if they wanted to or tried, they would not succeed.
– Online shopping has hurt the person’s relationships, financial situation, or work.
– Family members voice concern about the person’s online shopping. There are often arguments about it.
– The individual spends all day thinking about online shopping.
– Somebody who suffers from online shopping addiction gets upset or grumpy if they cannot shop online.
– The only thing that makes the addict relax or feel better is to shop online.
– Online shopping addicts hide the things they bought because people may criticize them for wasting money.
– After buying something online, the person subsequently feels guilty.
– Online shopping addicts spend less time doing other things. They spend less time because they are shopping online so much.
– People suffering from online shopping addiction often buy things they cannot afford. They also purchase things they do not need.

Solution

For everything you buy, assess how much you really need the item. setting a time limit for how long you can shop, restricting your budget to exclude online purchases, putting a blocker on certain websites and taking your credit card information offline.
Make a plan for situations in advance — such as holidays And, be prepared for a long road to recovery.

ADDICTION TO SOCIAL MEDIA

Everyone uses social media on their daily basis, it became more of a need than just simply a habit or a trend. Because technology became so accessible in every second of our lives because of it's portability, individuals are not able to be separated with technology. I can bet that most of the people that use technology would invest their time in social media. Social media are so diverse that almost every spectrum of our lives can be poured into a social media application and their wide network. There is always a social media to cater to any certain thing that exist in our daily lives; there's an app to entertain the need of being popular, to spread or to provide a platform for ideas ranging from writings, drawings, or even multimedia, or just simply to communicate with one another. Social media networks connect individuals internationally, exactly this what keeps people entertained and keep invested in social media; it serves as a validation for many people. It creates a safety net for many people. But exactly when it creates such benefits, many people will be impossible to be separated or to be limited in their practice of social media. It creates an addiction, reasons to always be on your phone, thinking that it's the only thing that is essential in your life, that you're nothing without social media, people are addicted and heavily obsessed.

But why is it so bad?
First, social media caters to the existing power structure, it's always been the trend that in social media practices, it's not the exposure of positive values and progress, it's usually the root of the sense of 'you're not valid if you're not popular in social media. In instagram for example, it creates the standard of beauty and aesthetics by merely pictures posted; that women have the need to cater to that idea of beauty. Secondly, it exposes users to negative content; hate speech, negative values such as immoral activities and exclusive rhetorics, cybercrime, pornography, and even start internet fights. Thirdly, it creates the notion that you need to stay in the application and always be online to achieve certain achievements. Exactly all of these reasons affect how we exercise in our practices of social media. We tend to forget to our important tasks in the real life, this is most prominent in students that are unable to sort their priorities and fail to do their works due to their addiction to social media. The same goes for adults with their jobs.

Addiction to Social Media

Technology, especially mobile phones, have become inseperable from our lives. We bring our phones everywhere for many things—filling out surveys, taking pictures, taking notes, and even aiding us in online transactions. However, we can all agree that people nowadays enjoy using social medias.

Social medias can bring up many useful information or topics, but we often neglect its negative effects on us. The current society we're living in feels the need to share everything they do on social medias (including those deemed unnecessary). True, social medias connect people, but getting along with people through social medias does not mean you get along with that specific person in real life. I think it's fair enough for us to once again question our purposes. Are we craving for attention?

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I'm sure we all recognize those widely popular platforms. Who doesn't? Almost everyone owns a social media account, and those who doesn't will often be shunned by the society. This is an odd aspect I have come to realize as I'm not that "social". But one can argue that almost every aspect of our lives, such as school and work, often pushes us into making one. For instance, teachers might require us to post something on a specific social media.

Ad[dic]tion to games

People (which most are students) gets addicted to games. But in my opinion, it's actually okay, if you still do other stuff not just the games. Most people opens up games because they are stressed at work and need refreshing by something that is fun. Games on phones give people a chance, so they can have fun without having to go outside. Games can also be positive because it can also create work, for example as a streamer, content creator, and also going professional.

Although sometimes, I do also agree that addiction or obsession to games are also dangerous. People are sometimes found died in front of a computer from gaming too much. Younger kids also became obsessed from games and rarely talk to their parents. This kind of behavior could be dangerous in the future.
Overall, my opinion of games have a mix feeling. But, if you can, try to not prioritize gaming if there is other important you could do like studying or talking to your parents.

This app is one of useful app in my daily life.

Addiction to Social Media

(How Social Media Shaped Our View of the World)

I am sure that we all have heard this phrase at one point in our lives, and I am pretty sure most of the time we just brush it off and did not even bother to check the news because we know the news is going to corner us, generation Z and Millenials, the most prominent user of Social Media.

While we may not like it, social media has indeed taken a huge part of our lives and has played a role in shaping our world views. Most news about the dangers of social media was usually written by our predecessor, the Generation X, who, usually condemns social media users just because they don’t understand. While their viewpoint might be too subjective, the news they wrote may have a point.
These days, we worry more about looking good on social media and showing off our wealth/skills than actually developing said skills and working towards our goal. Social media is fake, we all know this, yet we still strive to be social media stars because we can see that their lives are glamorous. We put on a facade on social media, only showing the best aspects of our lives and often, our bodies.
Social media shaped how we see our bodies. Social media paved the way to bodily liberation and self love, while this is very much a positive, social media still has its downfalls. Body image issues like body dismorphia may stem from the constant beauty standards that are shoved down our throats daily. Sexual liberation that comes with social media, while being a positive, may strike a wrong cord with the older generations, which is why they write such biased news regarding social media.
These days we strive to be more social media-successful than actual successful. This is a harmful mindset to have, especially for our youth, who are facing economic downfall, global climate change,

Addiction to Technology

In our lives today, we are unknowingly dependent our lives on technology. Can we imagine our lives without technology? Very difficult, right? We rely our lives on technology very much. Gadget, television, even school's stuff like projector, speaker, etc. We realize that we can't throw away technology easily. We can't and we should not do that. Addiction to technology and using technology as a tools to help our daily activity are very different. When we can see technology as a tools to help our daily activity, we will not feel addicted to technology.

Technology addiction occurs when we can't really escape from technology. We don't socialize, exercise, study, and only look for gadget or other technology everyday. This addiction should be stopped. This addiction can be caused by lack of daily activities and lack of awareness that technology is only used as a tool rather than as an obsession. Indeed there are also those who make technology as work, but this is different from addiction. Addictions that are too long can cause our bodies to be damaged by technology that makes us lazy. Then, technologies such as television, computers, and gadgets when used too long can also damage the eyes.

The public must find out that the use of technology may not be excessive. We must not make technology as the foundation of our lives because it is someday, technology may disappear and we must rely on ourselves. Make technology a tool to make relationships with others rather than destructive, and also make technology a tool for better life rather than as life itself.

Addiction to Mobile Games

Although it is not yet recognized by the American Medical Association as a diagnosable disorder, video game addiction is a very real problem for many people. According to the University of New Mexico, recent studies suggest that 6 to 15 percent of all gamers exhibit signs that could be characterized as addiction. Though this disorder can have significant consequences to those suffering from it, its signs and symptoms can sometimes be very difficult to recognize. Many parents look forward to seeing the results of the research in order to educate their children on the effects and to get along with their children better.

There are two major types of video games and therefore two major types of video game addictions. Standard video games are generally designed to be played by a single player and involve a clear goal or mission, such as rescuing a princess. The addiction in these games is often related to completing that mission or beating a high score or preset standard.

The other type of video game addiction is associated with online multiplayer games. These games are played online with other people and are especially addictive because they generally have no ending. Gamers with this type of addiction enjoy creating and temporarily becoming an online character. They often build relationships with other online players as an escape from reality. For some, this community may be the place where they feel they’re the most accepted. Most of the people who are addicted to multiplayer games are ones who are isolated and pariah from public and society. They look forward to the sense of belonging, getting away from reality, giving up on trying to blend it with real life.

Like any other compulsive disorder, video game addiction can have severe negative consequences. Though most of the symptoms listed above have short-term effects, they can lead to more severe long-term repercussions if not addressed properly. For example, someone addicted to video games will often avoid sleeping or eating proper meals in order to continue gaming. While the short-term effects of this may include hunger and fatigue, it could eventually lead to a sleep disorder or diet-related health issues. Similarly, those who isolate themselves from others in order to play video games may miss out on family events, outings with friends, or other events in the short-term. If this continues to be a pattern for a long period of time, however, addicts might find themselves without any friends at all.

Other long-term effects of video game addiction to consider are the financial, academic and occupational consequences involved. Video games and video game equipment can be very expensive, especially when factoring in recurring costs such as the high-speed Internet connection required for online multiplayer games. These games can also be very time-consuming, leaving addicted gamers with less time to focus on their education or career.

There are so many things we can do using smartphones, for example, we can call, text messages, play games, social media, etc. Our lives can be easier with the presence of smartphones. With these conveniences many people become addicted to smartphones. Smartphone addiction turned out to have a detrimental effect on its users. Some of the bad effects are eye disorders, disturbing sleep patterns, disrupting learning, lack of socialization, and a recent study found that smartphone addiction can cause damage to the brain. the damage in question is an imbalance in the workings of the brain.

Addiction to Games

As we all know almost everybody play games. Children or Oldies now play games wether it is a pc game, consoles or even mobile. And honestly, if we get addicted to these games, it is bad for us. Because there are some negative aspects that we can get. From Radiation problem, society problem, and other things. But we must see it from the positive way, there are alot of positive things that we can get. For example, E-Sports or Electronic Sports are more competitive right now. Even in Asian Games or SEA Games, the committee put games as one of the sports. We can even make money from games, like streaming, selling your goodies from the game, and becoming a pro player. So in my opinion, its not a bad thing if we see it from the positive way. Thank you

Millennials' Addiction To Smartphones (Samuel Kristianto/29)

Nowadays our culture is deeply interwoven with technology, especially smartphones and many people are more addicted to using them. Millennials are the majority of people addicted to smartphones. Unlike previous generations, they are the first generation to pick up technology at such a young age. What are the consequences of Millennials getting along with technology? Well get ready to find out my opinion on this and write down some interesting things!

Millennials are the first generation to readily access information and knowledge on the internet at such a young age. It's so easy to look up things on the internet nowadays. That means by using technology, we are better at adapting knowledge and are so more likely to try on challenges and less likely to turn down new things. Being more adaptive to challenges means that most people who are used to being adaptive are better to get up from failures.

But the effects are not all good. Using smartphones too much will cause negative effects, like wasting time and money on less important things like playing games too much, overspending money on online shopping, and watching too much videos instead of more immediate and important things like school and/or work.

But in my personal opinion, smartphones have so much benefits that it outweighs the negative consequences. Smartphones have made it easier to communicate with distant people easily, uniting the world. With smartphones, life has been made easier by enabling us to look up information on the internet, shop things online, play games when we're bored, and to help with learning.

Ultimately, we are responsible to determine the effects or smartphones have on our lives. With more experienced adults to look after them, millennials can do many great things with technology. With proper assistance and nourishment, millennials have unlimited potential and they'll be ready to take off to the skies. Millennials will eventually grow up and be productive members of society if they use technology wisely. When this happens, we’ll surely have a bright future to look forward to!

We mostly use the internet to find information that we want. One of the applications that we use is Youtube. Youtube is kind of application that collect a lot of videos around the world. We can also post our own video with a Youtube channel. Some people in the world become famous in this way. We called them Youtubers. They usually post their video when they were traveling or playing video games. Some of them have their own content, about food, games, or their collection. Teenangers love to watch them. Sometimes this caused an addiction to youtube. They can't stop watch the videos because after 1 video finished, there will be another video shown up. If they feel bored with the content, they will easily find another youtuber that have more interesting content. This addiction may caused a lot of problem. First, some students will procrastinate their homework to watch youtube. This may caused a bad scores. Second, if people spent their time only for watching youtube, they'll lost their time for doing something more valuable. And they will end up being not productive. If we want to change this addiction become something more valuable, we could try to manage the content that we watch. Let's started with news video or educational video. This is the way to take advantage from watching youtube.
