Textual Evidence: "Whenever I looked at rebels during raids, I got angrier, because they look like the rebels who played cards in the ruins of the village where I had lost my family. So when the lieutenant gave orders, I shot as many as I could, but I didn't feel better" (Beah 122)
Question 1: What realization came to the character’s mind?
Ishmael realizes that no matter how many rebels he kills, he won't get over the loss of his family.
Question 2: What inferences can you make about what the character will do now or think now?
Ishmael will repeatedly want to kill rebels to avenge his family, even though he won't get over the loss from doing it.

Textual Evidence: "Is there an end to this madness, and is there any future for him beyond the bushes?" (Beah 45)
Question 1: What did you wonder about when you thought about the question?
I wondered what I would do and feel if I was in his situation. I though would I just give up or would I push through no matter how hard it is.
Question 2: How is this question important to the story and how do you think the character will answer it?
The question is important because it dictated what Ishmael would do in the future and how the war would affect him in the future. Ishmael always tried to survive and not die, and always tried to fight through the physical and emotional trauma from the war.

(Beah 151)
Question 1: What advice or insight did the wiser character share?
The advice that the staff at the treatment center said was that it wasn't the boys' fault for what they did during the army and war.
Question 2: What inferences can you make about how this will affect the character who received the advice?
At first Ishmael hated the saying, but he slowly started to believe in it. Ishmael starts to come to terms to what he did during the war.

We would come back hours later after killing many people and continue the movie as if we had just returned from intermission. We were always either st the front lines, watching a war, or doing drugs. There was no time to be alone or to think."
