It's about a girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in a dark vision of the future, where there are 12 districts that are ruled by a capital called The Capitol. 1 is the richest, most favourable district, while 12 is the most overlooked, ignored and poor district. Every year (for 74 now) The Capitol makes people fight to the death in a completely controlled arena. They call it "The Hunger Games." Katniss lives in District 12, so she's poor, but she's well-built and sturdy. Her father died when she was around 10, so her mom went into depression, so they started getting hungry very quick. Katniss now provides for the family by hunting. One day on they day of the reaping ( the day names are drawn out of a glass jar to select people to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. People's names are put on a paper slip, and cast into a glass jar. Someone picks a paper slip out of the glass jar, and calls a girl up to the stage form the girls jar. Then, they go to the boys jar and call the "tribute" up to the stage. ) Her little sister is called. She volunteers to take her place in the Hunger Games. This is because the book was slightly confusing and didn't have a clear message to me . 
Maybe I'll try reading it again sometime later.

Summary :
This book is a really good book that you can love yourself in.  The City of Ember is a kinda post-apocalyptic themed book.  The story is about Ember, an underground city threatened by aging infrastructure. The young heroes, Lina Mayfleet, and her friend, Doon Harrow (the second hero), follow clues left behind by the original builders of the City of Ember, to safety in the outside world. WOW! Can they do it?

My view on the (main) characters : 

Lina is a very resilient and hardworking person and she's also works at what she wants over & over. But one of her faults are that she's a very emotional and overreactive person.
