Tour guide: Good morning, guys. How have you been? My name is Carlo, and I’m going to be your tour guide today. Glad to meet you!

Sophie: Hi, Carlo! My name is Sophie, and this is my boyfriend, Juan. We are so excited about this hike.

Juan: Hello, Carlo! It’s a pleasure to meet you, too.

Tour guide: That sounds great, Sophie and Juan! Well, guys, we are at Molinos Waterfall. This place is located in the department of Caldas, in the town of Villamaría. This hike takes about one hour to reach this beautiful tourist attraction. During the hike, please don’t litter in this area, and if you want to see some animals around here, I suggest you keep quiet.

Sophie: That’s so cool! We’ll be very quiet; we don’t want to scare them. In fact, what kinds of animals can we see here?

Juan: Yeah, I’d love to see an Andean condor or maybe a puma!

Tour guide: That’s right! If we’re lucky, we might see some Andean condors flying over the mountains. They are one of the largest birds in the world! As for pumas, they live in this region, but they’re very shy, so it’s rare to spot one. You can also find different kinds of birds, butterflies, and even some small monkeys along the way.

Sophie: Wow, that sounds amazing! I hope we can see at least one of those animals.

Juan: Yeah, it must be wonderful to see them in their natural habitat.

Tour guide: Exactly! That’s why it’s so important to take care of this place. The waterfall isn’t just a tourist attraction; it’s also home to many species.

Sophie: That’s beautiful. Nature really gives us so much.

Tour guide: You’re right, Sophie. Well, we’re almost there! In just a few more minutes, you’ll hear the sound of the water.

Juan: I can’t wait to see it!

Sophie: Me neither! I’m sure it’s going to be breathtaking.

Tour guide: All right, guys. We’ve arrived at our destination, Molinos Waterfall. Feel the mist of the waterfall and enjoy this beautiful view!

Scenario 1 : Prenatal Check-up appointment

Context:
I’m Natalia, I’m pregnant and I’m in my third trimester. Every month I go to a clinic for a routine prenatal check-up. This control I want to ask the doctor about some mild back pain and sleeping difficulties The doctor reviews my test results and gives me recommendations.

Dialogue:

Doctor: Good morning, Natalia! How have you been feeling these days?
Natalia: Good morning, doctor. I’ve been feeling quite well, but I’ve had some back pain lately at times since the second ultrasound because of the position I was in for an hour, and I'm in a lot of pain.
Doctor: I see. Back pain is common during the third trimester, but let’s make sure everything is fine. Have you been doing light exercise?
Natalia: Not frecuently, but at home I try to use the Pilates ball to do prenatal exercises and prepare for labor.
Doctor: Light exercise such as walking or prenatal yoga is usually very beneficial. Just avoid lifting heavy things.
Natalia: Thank you, doctor. Also, I’ve been having trouble sleeping these days. Is that normal?
Doctor: Yes, it’s quite normal. Try to sleep on your left side and use a pillow between your legs to feel more comfortable.
Natalia: Last week I bought a prenatal pillow to try to help me at night, and sleeping on my left side all night is a little difficult because I feel tired and uncomfortable. So I think I need to use it more days to get used to it.

Doctor: Sure! Because everything in your test results looks great. Keep eating healthy and staying hydrated. We’ll see you again in four weeks.
Natalia: Perfect, thank you very much, doctor. Have a nice day.
Doctor: You too, take care!

Language Analysis:

1. Level of Formality:

The language in the conversation is formal but warm and caring, which is appropriate for a doctor–patient interaction. The doctor uses polite and professional expressions such as “Good morning, Natalia,” “Let’s make sure everything is fine,” and “Keep eating healthy and staying hydrated.” And me also respond respectfully.

2. Vocabulary:
The dialogue includes context-specific vocabulary related to pregnancy and health, such as “prenatal check-up,” “third trimester,” “ultrasound,” “Pilates ball,” “labor,” “prenatal pillow,” and “hydrated.”. There are also natural everyday expressions like “I’ve been having trouble sleeping” that make the conversation sound authentic.

3. Grammar :
the grammar is correct and understandable. The use of present perfect (“I’ve been feeling quite well,” “I’ve had some back pain lately,” “I’ve been having trouble sleeping”) effectively describes recent experiences connected to the present.

Reflection

The prenatal check-up scenario shows a clear and realistic use of English in a medical context. Both the doctor and the patient use formal but friendly language, which creates a comfortable atmosphere.

The conversation includes a variety of useful vocabulary such as “prenatal check-up,” “third trimester,” and “hydrated,”. The grammar is mostly correct and natural, with effective use of present perfect and present continuous to describe ongoing experiences.

A major strength of this dialogue is its authenticity and clarity. Natalia (I) express my concerns in a polite and detailed way, giving background information about my discomfort and daily habits. The doctor listens and provides practical suggestions. This makes the interaction realistic and shows empathy.

However, there are a few aspects that could be improved. I (Natalia) can use more precise grammar and connectors to make th sentences smoother. Not very often, but I try to use the Pilates ball at home to prepare for labor.” And Also, adding short supportive responses from the doctor like “That’s great!” could make the exchange more natural and interactive.

Finally, I think this scenario is very important for my goals and personal interests. From a personal perspective, this dialogue represents a real-life situation that can happen in a travel context, which makes it very useful for language learning.

Personally, I believe that in this second scenario, the level of formality is completely informal, since it is a conversation between friends in a relaxed and fun environment, such as a cultural event. Therefore, the expressions used, like “Guys, this event is so great!” or “That’s awesome!”, reflect a close, everyday, and spontaneous language typical of a youthful and friendly context.

Regarding vocabulary, it is entirely appropriate for the situation, as the characters use words related to geek culture and the anime world, such as cosplayers, hoodies, plushies, and figurines, among others. These terms demonstrate proper coherence with the cultural context and show the speakers’ interest in this topic.

As for grammar, the dialogue maintains simple and correctly structured sentences, allowing clear and fluent communication. Appropriate verb tenses are used, mainly the simple present and modal expressions like should or want to, which contribute to the naturalness of the interaction.

On the other hand, from a pragmatic perspective, the use of language reflects politeness, enthusiasm, and respect toward others, especially when the characters address Eiichiro Oda with expressions such as “Excuse me, Mr. Oda” and “We’re huge fans of your work.” This shows an adequate understanding of cultural and social norms in a communicative context, highlighting how speakers adapt their way of speaking according to the situation.

Expressions like “This event is so great!” and “I can’t believe we’re actually seeing him in person!” effectively convey their emotions and make the dialogue sound authentic. The interaction also flows naturally, with each speaker responding appropriately and keeping the conversation dynamic.

One of the main strengths of this dialogue is the use of everyday vocabulary that reflects the context of friendship and shared interests. The sentences are grammatically correct and easy to understand. The tone remains friendly and spontaneous, which helps create a sense of genuine enthusiasm. Additionally, polite expressions appear when the characters talk to Eiichiro Oda, showing an appropriate shift from informal to respectful language.

However, one possible area for improvement could be the inclusion of a few more descriptive or varied expressions to enrich the dialogue and make it even more engaging. Also, using some connectors such as “after that” or “then” could help organize the sequence of actions more clearly. Overall, the language used is very effective for the cultural context, as it communicates excitement, respect, and friendship in a natural way.

Context:
My friend Valeria and I met at a café after several weeks without seeing each other to have a drink and chat about different events in our lives.

Dialogue:

Valeria: Hi, friend! It's been so long since we last saw each other!

Natalia: Friend! It's true. I can't believe it's almost been a month. How have you been?

Valeria: Pretty good, except I'm super busy with work and fashion shows. This queen project is taking all my energy and time, and I haven't been able to travel much and you?
Natalia: Same! I've been really busy too, but mostly with my classes because we were at school during the patron saint festivals and had a lot of work to do, and with family matters. Oh, and guess what: I finally finished organizing everything for my baby!
Valeria: That’s awesome! I saw some pictures on your Instagram, it looks so cute!
Natalia: Thank you! I'm so happy for everything we have, and it's almost time for my baby to be born. And you? Any news?
Valeria: Well, I just got back from a short trip to Medellín this weekend. It was amazing! The food, the people, everything.
Natalia: Sounds perfect! We should plan a trip together sometime soon.
Valeria: Definitely! Let’s do it before the baby comes, jaja!
Natalia: jaja, good idea! But it has to be soon and somewhere close.

Valeria: We're going to Salento, so we can explore the town and walk around peacefully.

Natalia: Of course we are.

Valeria: Perfect, see you this weekend.

Natalia: I can't wait for Saturday. See you, friend. Have a nice afternoon.

Language Analysis

1. Formality:

The level of formality is informal. We use casual greetings and friendly expressions such as “Hi, friend!” “It’s been so long,” and “jaja, good idea!” The tone is relaxed, cheerful, and emotionally warm, reflecting a close relationship.

2. Vocabulary:

The vocabulary is everyday and natural, appropriate for an informal conversation. Expressions like “super busy,” “That’s awesome,” and “Sounds perfect” sound spontaneous and authentic. The use of “fashion shows,” “Instagram,” “baby” makes the dialogue realistic and contextually rich.

3. Grammar:

The grammar is mostly accurate and easy to follow. Sentences use present perfect (“I’ve been really busy”), present simple, and present continuous appropriately. Some sentences could be improved slightly for fluency — for example, “and you?” could be expanded to “What about you?” or “How about you?” to sound more natural.

4.Use of Language:

The pragmatic use of English is very effective. we use supportive comments (“That’s awesome!” “Sounds perfect!”) and show genuine interest in each other’s lives. The tone remains kind, showing an excellent understanding of how informal English works in social situations.

Reflection

This café conversation shows a natural and effective use of informal English between two close friends. The tone is friendly and cheerful, which fits perfectly with the relaxed environment of a café, the speakers use common expressions which help create a realistic and spontaneous dialogue.

One of the main strengths of this scenario is the coherence and flow of the dialogue. The questions and answers connect smoothly, and both speakers actively participate in the conversation. The use of positive expressions and laughter adds warmth and authenticity and the vocabulary is appropriate and reflects the speakers’ real-life experiences, such as work, pregnancy, and travel. However, some expressions could be more idiomatic of the English language and more questions could be asked to broaden the conversation.

Overall, the scenario successfully demonstrates how to use informal English in a friendly and natural way. Small adjustments in vocabulary and fluency would make it even more dynamic and authentic.

Scenario 1: Job Interview

Context:
A young woman is having a job interview for an English teaching assistant position at a private school. The interviewer asks her about her experience and skills.

Conversation (excerpt):
Interviewer: Good morning, please take a seat. Can you tell me about your teaching experience?
Candidate: Good morning, thank you. Well, I have some experience helping students with English homework, and I did my teaching practice last semester.
Interviewer: That sounds good. Why do you want to work with us?
Candidate: Because I like teaching, and your school is very popular. I want to improve my skills and help students learn in a fun way.

Reflection:

In this scenario, the level of formality is appropriate for a job interview. The candidate uses polite expressions such as “Good morning” and “thank you,” which reflect respect and professionalism. The vocabulary is simple but suitable for a B1 level, demonstrating clear communication. The tone is positive and enthusiastic, which fits the context.

However, there are areas for improvement. Some expressions could be more precise and formal. For example, instead of “I did my teaching practice last semester,” the candidate could say “I completed my teaching practicum last semester.” This makes the answer sound more professional. Also, the sentence “your school is very popular” could be replaced with “your school has an excellent reputation.” That change improves the tone and register.

Grammatically, the conversation is accurate but basic. The candidate could use more complex structures, such as “I have developed strong communication skills through my teaching practice.” These changes would make her responses more fluent and academic, increasing communication effectiveness in a professional setting.

Examples and Suggestions:

Original Sentence

Improved Version

Explanation

Your school is very popular.

Your school has an excellent reputation.

More formal and natural expression.

I did my teaching practice last semester.

I completed my teaching practicum last semester.

More professional vocabulary.

I like teaching and want to help students learn.

I am passionate about teaching and committed to helping students succeed.

Adds enthusiasm and professionalism.

Scenario 2: Doctor’s Appointment

Context:
A woman visits a doctor because she has been feeling tired and dizzy for several days.

Conversation (excerpt):
Doctor: Good afternoon, how can I help you today?
Patient: Good afternoon, doctor. I have been feeling very tired and a little dizzy since last week.
Doctor: I see. Have you been eating well and sleeping enough?
Patient: Not really. I have been very busy at work and I skip meals sometimes.

Reflection:

This scenario represents a formal but friendly context. The patient and doctor both use polite and respectful language, showing an appropriate level of formality. The tone is neutral and professional, which fits well in a medical setting. The vocabulary is simple but clear enough for the patient to express her symptoms effectively.

The grammar is correct, and the use of present perfect tense (“I have been feeling…”) is appropriate for describing recent continuous symptoms. This shows good command of English for a B1 level.

However, there are some areas that could be improved to make the conversation more natural. The sentence “I have been very busy at work and I skip meals sometimes” could be rephrased to “I’ve been very busy at work lately, so I sometimes skip meals.” This sounds more fluent and natural. The patient could also include more specific vocabulary related to her health, such as “I’ve had headaches” or “I’ve been feeling weak.”

Improving the range of vocabulary and using linking words like “lately,” “actually,” or “because” would make the communication more detailed and coherent. These small adjustments enhance clarity and effectiveness in real-life communication with a professional.

Examples and Suggestions:

Original Sentence

Improved Version

Explanation

I have been very busy at work and I skip meals sometimes.

I’ve been very busy at work lately, so I sometimes skip meals.

More natural word order and use of linking word.

I have been feeling tired and dizzy.

I’ve been feeling weak, tired, and a bit dizzy.

Expands vocabulary and gives more detail.

Not really.

Not really, I haven’t been eating properly.

Adds context and clarity.

Scenario 1: Job Interview at a Private School

Context

Laura, a recent graduate in Education, has an interview for an English teaching position at a private school. She needs to introduce herself, talk about her background, and answer formal questions about her teaching philosophy and experience.

Dialogue

Interviewer: Good morning, Laura. Welcome to Bright Horizons Private School. How are you today?
Laura: Good morning, thank you. I’m feeling great and very excited to be here.

Interviewer: Wonderful! Could you please tell me a little about yourself and your background in education?
Laura: Of course. I recently graduated with a degree in Education, specializing in English teaching. During my studies, I completed my practicum in a bilingual elementary school, where I developed strong classroom management skills and learned to adapt lessons to different learning styles.

Interviewer: That sounds great. How would you describe your teaching philosophy?
Laura: I believe learning should be meaningful and engaging. My approach is based on student-centered learning, where children actively participate in their own educational process. I also integrate technology and creative activities to make lessons dynamic and inclusive.

Interviewer: Excellent. Can you give me an example of an innovative strategy you’ve used in class?
Laura: Certainly. I designed project-based lessons where students created digital stories to practice vocabulary and grammar. This helped them connect language learning to real-life contexts while improving their teamwork and creativity.

Interviewer: Impressive! How do you handle challenges in the classroom?
Laura: I handle challenges calmly by promoting communication and empathy. I encourage students to express their feelings and opinions respectfully, and I always try to turn conflicts into learning opportunities.

Interviewer: Very good, Laura. Do you have any questions for us?
Laura: Yes, I’d love to know how the school supports teachers’ professional development and collaboration.

Interviewer: That’s an excellent question. We offer continuous training and workshops to help teachers grow.
Laura: That’s wonderful. Thank you very much for your time and this opportunity.
Interviewer: Thank you, Laura. We’ll be in touch soon. Have a great day!
Laura: You too. Goodbye!

Language Analysis

Formality: The language is formal, polite, and professional, appropriate for a job interview.

Vocabulary: Includes educational terms like student-centered learning, classroom management, project-based lessons, and professional development.

Grammar: Uses present perfect (“I have developed”), simple present (“I believe learning should be…”), and past simple (“I designed”) correctly.

Pragmatics: Polite expressions (“Thank you very much for your time”) show courtesy and confidence.

Reflection:

This job interview scenario demonstrates effective and professional communication. The tone is respectful and confident, reflecting a clear understanding of formal English used in workplace contexts. The interviewer uses polite expressions such as “Welcome to Bright Horizons Private School” and “We’ll be in touch soon”, which create a friendly yet professional atmosphere. Laura responds naturally and clearly, showing preparedness and enthusiasm through expressions like “I believe learning should be meaningful and engaging.” Her use of education-related vocabulary, including “project-based learning” and “student-centered approach,” demonstrates expertise and passion for teaching.

Grammatically, the conversation is accurate and fluent, with correct use of verb tenses to describe experiences and teaching philosophy. The dialogue is well-structured, with smooth turn-taking and appropriate levels of detail in responses. Laura provides examples that support her statements, making her answers persuasive and authentic.

For improvement, the candidate could enhance fluency by using a wider range of connectors such as “Furthermore,” “In addition,” or “As a result,” to make transitions smoother between ideas. For instance, instead of “I also integrate technology and creative activities,” she could say “In addition, I integrate technology and creative activities to enrich learning experiences.” Pronunciation and intonation practice could also help convey confidence and enthusiasm more effectively during the interview.

Overall, this scenario effectively reflects a real-life job interview, balancing professionalism with warmth. With slightly more advanced connectors, richer vocabulary, and confident delivery, the communication would sound even more persuasive, demonstrating a strong command of both English and interpersonal skills in a professional educational context.

Scenario 2: Ordering at a Restaurant

Context

David goes out to dinner with his friend. He talks to the waiter to order food, ask about ingredients, and request the bill at the end. The interaction is polite but relaxed, reflecting everyday English communication.

Dialogue

Waiter: Good evening! Welcome to Bella Vita. How many people are in your party?
David: Good evening! Just two, please.
Waiter: Great, right this way. Here are your menus. Could we get the bill, please?
Waiter: Of course. I’ll bring it right away.

Language Analysis

Formality: Polite but informal perfect for social situations.

Vocabulary: Includes restaurant-related terms (menu, starters, sparkling water, bill, delicious).

Grammar: Correct use of modal verbs (could, would like), contractions (I’ll, we’re), and polite requests.

Pragmatics: Expressions of courtesy (please, thank you, excuse me) show good communicative competence.

Reflection:

The restaurant scenario presents an effective example of polite, natural communication in an everyday English context. The tone is friendly and respectful, creating a comfortable interaction between the customer and the waiter. Expressions like “Could we have a bottle of sparkling water?” and “Could you make it without onions, please?” show excellent use of modal verbs to make requests sound soft and courteous. The use of please and thank you reinforces politeness, while contractions such as I’ll and we’re make the dialogue sound fluent and authentic.

The vocabulary is appropriate for the setting, including words like starter, sparkling water, main course, bill, and delicious. The grammar is accurate, and the conversation flows naturally without hesitation. The speaker demonstrates good pragmatic awareness, knowing how to address the waiter respectfully and respond to offers in a relaxed tone. A strong point of this dialogue is its natural rhythm and realistic structure it feels like a real restaurant interaction.

However, some improvements could make the communication even more authentic. Adding descriptive and conversational language would enrich the dialogue. For example, instead of simply saying “Sounds delicious,” the customer could say “That sounds really tasty I love creamy sauces.” This adds warmth and personality. Additionally, incorporating small talk or compliments, such as “The atmosphere here is lovely,” or “Thank you for your great service,” would make the conversation more engaging and culturally appropriate.

To enhance oral performance, practicing pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm would help the speaker sound more spontaneous and confident. Overall, the scenario demonstrates a solid grasp of functional English for daily life. With more descriptive expressions and emotional tone, it would sound even more natural and fluent in real world communication.

Hello classmate Natalia, this is my feedback.

The scenario effectively uses clear, polite, and empathetic English suitable for a medical setting. Both the doctor and patient communicate naturally and respectfully, showing professionalism and care. The vocabulary is accurate and specific to the prenatal context, with correct use of terms like third trimester and prenatal exercises. Grammar is mostly correct, especially in the use of present perfect and continuous tenses.

Minor improvements include correcting small errors (e.g., “Not frecuently” → “Not very often”) and using softer, more natural expressions (e.g., “I’ve been feeling discomfort” instead of “I’m in a lot of pain”). Adding linking words such as however or actually would make transitions smoother, and including short emotional responses like That’s great! or I understand would make the conversation feel warmer and more engaging.

Overall, the dialogue demonstrates excellent communicative skills and appropriate tone. With a few adjustments in grammar, cohesion, and interactional expressions, it would reach an even higher level of fluency and authenticity.
