The geography of Greece caused them to be sea traders because they had limited resources due to the mountains. With the only fertile land to grow food in the northeast of Greece, a lot of Greeks herded sheep and goats. The harsh climate also made farming hard, so the Greeks turned to trading for food. The sea was much easier than traveling through the rough mountains. So Greeks became sea traders, and they then mastered the boats and ocean to make trade easier.

The mountains were excellent for herding animals such as sheep and goats. They have made several innovations in mathematics and philosophy. They have gathered resources such as olives, wool, and wine. Their abundant olives made olive oil their best and most sought after trade.

Due to the high and numerous mountains of the Greek peninsula, the soil was terrible and only good for growing olives. Being able to sustain and grow cities was based on having food, and the Greeks had very little. So they looked to the sea and to their neighbors for food. Going back to the olives from earlier, it turns out that their neighbors couldn't grow olives very easily and so the Greeks traded olives and olive oil for food. This is why the Greeks became prolific traders.

The ancient Greeks had to become sea traders because they didn't have fertile land because of all the mountains. Since the western side didn't have much area for fishing and trading most of that happened on the east side because it is flatter than the west. So after the sea trading started on the east it eventually made it's way all over Greece. That is the short paragraph of how the Greeks became sea traders.

However there was one crop that was well suited to the environment. This was the olive, they could be used as olive oil and lamp fuel making it highly prized to other civilizations. the Greeks were also very skilled sailors being that they are surrounded by water.

The geography of Greece affected how they live because of the many mountains they're area had. These mountains affected how they traveled, because of the tall rocky terrain. Their soil was also not very fertile it most places, but in the few places it did allow you to grow and breed Wheat, Barley, Olives, Grapes, Sheep, Goats, and cattle. This did not allow a huge surplus of food, making them go to the sea to trade with traders from other Mediterranean cultures to get the resources they needed. They traded their olive oil, wool, and wine. Most traders were eager to trade for olive oil as it added flavor to food, was used as lamp fuel, and body lotion.

Since 3/4 of Greece is covered in mountains and hills, it causes trouble with farming because if you have a lot of mountains or hills, the land doesn't have lots of fertility. Also, the western side of Greece doesn't have much area for fishing. Since Greece has 3 sides of water around them, a peninsula, it may be much easier to fish. Greece's location is in the eastern Mediterranean, it was perfect for trading. Greek sailors were highly skilled, and traveled as far as ancient Egypt to trade products. Greeks began to rely on the sea and soon enough, they became sailors, merchants, and fishers. As you can see here, this is how the geography of Greece influenced the ancient Greeks to become sea traders.

The Greeks became sea traders because of their climate conditions. Because the climate there was so mountainous, it was hard to grow crops. The wet and windy winters, and the hot and dry summers didn't make things better either. With the climate and landscape issues, farming didn't create surpluses. With this, the Greeks needed another place to get their necessities from, so they turned to water. The Greeks were in such a convenient place for trading overseas, so they took advantage of that. Another reason I think environment issues caused the Greek's overseas trade is, if the Greeks had very fertile soil, warm summers and calm winters, they would have so much food that they wouldn't need to trade overseas for crops.

The Greeks became Sea Traders because of their weather. The Greeks lived in a very mountainous area and there wasnt a lot of space to move around and since the weather was hot and dry in the summer and cold and wet in the winter they didnt grow a lot of good or get a lot of sources they needed. Since they werent growing a lot of crops they needed another source to grow their crops at so they moved over to water. In doing so using the water as a main source they started to grow more food. I think if the Greeks had a better source to start with they would have grown more food as well as they would have had more space to move around.

The Greeks became sea traders because farming didn't produce a lot of food, and traveling across the land was difficult. The Greeks decided to depend on the sea for food. Greese's location in the eastern Mediterranean was perfect for trading. They could go far to trade and it would be easier to travel on the sea.
