Our grade level is elementary and a lot of students do not have mental health issues at this age but it is still important to talk about the benefits of exercise with students. I think talking about the benefits of exercise is important for kids of all ages and gets them thinking about the life they want to live.

In the elementary years student's brains are sponges eager to learn and try new skills. I think it's incredibly important to provide them with access to try new skills while keeping fitness fun and positive. So many older students start to see fitness negatively that I think it's vital for Elementary PE teachers to keep the fun alive and foster that positive relationship with body movement. I think PE is also a perfect place to nurture a growth mindset in students. They need to learn that failure happens and they can continue to practice and master skills that they may have thought were impossible.
