I think it is a good idea to choose your own teacher because, as they said in the text, students have experience. They know how different teachers teach and the various teaching styles. Especially senior students, they know which teaching styles are best for each subject. For example, you cannot understand mathematics that well if your teacher only teaches new things (formulas, concepts, …) without letting you do exercises. For accounting, which is different than teaching maths, it is better to give a basic explanation and let the students try to solve the questions themselves. As for languages, interaction is key. The students must speak the language to learn it. They must practice it. That is why it is an innovative idea to involve the (senior) students. As for the argument of Ms Peace about the undermining of respect for the teachers, the students don’t have to get the power of making the final decision. They should, however, get the chance to voice their opinion. It also helps with improving student-teacher relationships if they get the chance to help in choosing their teacher.

No, I would rather not choose my own teacher, especially not at a young age such as 13-16 because I think me as a teenager would rather choose a teacher who is fun and not boring, than a teacher who gives the lesson better but is a little more boring. I also wouldn’t find it fair for the teachers studying their whole life to not become a teacher just because a teenager didn’t think you were good enough, it is a little bit disrespectful towards the teachers.

I think it’s a good idea. Students see things from an other perspective then adults and other teachers. But I also think that the new teachers should be interviewed by the principal and teachers who have an experience working at that school. I also think that the students will be less bored in classes, because the students choose a teachers who looks interesting, enthusiastic and entertaining. It is tricky that students will only choose teachers who are too much fun and not really serious, but that’s why they also should be interviewed by other adults.

Yes i think it's a good cause because it's eventually the students that have to follow the classes. They can work better or will work better for somebody that they like and have a good connection with than somebody that they dislike. I think it wouldn't undermine the respect for teachers because it's easier for a teacher to teach with students that have respect for them than stidents that doens't have respect for the teachers.

I think it would be a great idea because most off the students know what a good teacher is. Every student has got a good teacher but also a bad one. Most of the students know who are the good teachers by the first lesson and also know who are going to be boring. I think some teachers will not like the process of the students choosing their own teachers, because some adults think we are not capable enough to make that kind of choses.

My opinion

I think that we aren’t responsible enough to make decisions about hiring staff. It would be nice to have a little voice about it but know to decide it all by ourselves. Of course there are some teachers that I don’t like and I think ‘why would they hire someone like that’ in cases like this I would like to have a voice. But not to fire the person, just to adjust his way of for example, teaching or communicating. I don’t think we have that right to hire a teacher.

I think it's a good idea to involve students in choosing teachers because we spend a lot of time with teachers and know what a good teacher is. When students are involved, we feel like our opinion matter, and we are more motivated. Because we are part of the process, there will be more respect for the teachers. It's also easier to connect with the teachers. It gives students more responsibility, which is good for their education.

I think this will be a good choice. Why because when student can choose their own teachers can they also stop complaining about teachers teaching poorly or other things. So i do think this is a possible option.

I think it is a good idea to let students participate in the selection process because they know what you need to have to be a good teacher. Having multiple opinions from different ages and positions will make it easier to have a vision on the persons personality and not only the skills the person has. It will give the students a feeling that their input and their opinion matters. I think letting students participate will help to find teachers who make learning more fun and interesting. After all the students are going to spend a lot of time with them so their opinion should matter or at least be listened to.

I think that letting students intervieuw new teachers is a great idea. It gives them a voice in who teaches them. And this helps build trust between students and teachers. Through this schools can make sure the teacher fits well with the students. I think it is a better school system.
