The police made the mistake of not securing the scene which allowed contamination of the blood via footprints and other DNA. Many people were allowed to walk through the area without being stopped.

The police should not have allowed the scene to be washed before they could examine the scene. The blood found on the gate was planted after the scene was discovered which led drew the conclusion that someone tampered with the scene once more.

If I was a police officer, I would have been sure there were no unnecessary or untheorized chemicals being used. As well as keeping surveillance over the homes, so that no one could trespass to plant misleading evidence.

His blood was found on all the key points of the car that would be needed to operate the vehicle.

My critique:

Had not the police stepped into the car as well as the EDTA chemical found, this would have been solid evidence.

The police and other staff who were allowed on the scene did not protect their evidence nor photograph it all. Even three months after, there were more things that were found and because of the period of time they had been tampered with.

If I was an investigator, these three pieces of evidence would be kept sacred. Even before they could be turned in, no one should have been near the evidence. I would have used highlighting agents to see and test the blood.

It was difficult for the scientist to interpret the exact person because they had so many missing pieces. The shoe prints, chemicals, the failure to compare fingerprints, and failure to follow up with Ron's shirt's grab patterns.

My critique:

Overall, the police were given all the evidence needed to handle their case and did not have the chance to test them. Contamination is not a factor that can be looked over but, in this case, the scientist was unable to match the evidence to the blood.
