One example of active learning I can think of is when I was in high school. In my business classes we learned how to do interviews. Instead of the teacher just teaching us how to do an interview, she brought in some professionals and had all of us interview with them so we could actively learn how to interview.

In high school I had a banking class. We all learned how the school bank worked. Then we had to run a fully operational student bank. We had the opportunity of learning many thigs about banking that we would not have learned without having that hands on experience.

In one of my science classes we had to build a small boat with a variety of resources available to us. The teacher gave all of us some ideas of what may make a good boat, but it was completely up to us to design and create the boat ourselves. Then, we put a bunch of pennies in our boat to see how many it could hold.

In one of my development classes I had to raise a virtual child and make certain parenting choices on my own. At the end I got to see how each of those decisions affected the child.

In my business communications class in high school we often did debates. We would be placed into groups and we would be given a topic to debate the other group on. We had a few minutes to create an argument as a group and decide the best and most versed group member on the topic to debate for us.

Last semester in my oral communications class I had a semester long group to work with on multiple assignments. I had the opportunity of seeing many topics through the eyes of my peers and learn from what they had to offer.

Once they had a human anatomy exhibit, and my class took a special trip to view the extensive exibhit to learn more about the human anatomy.

This assignment is making me learn about the different types of learning by looking at and reviewing my own life experiences to learn authentically.

At my school the teachers often rewarded students with parties. If we all made a certain grade on an assignment we would get a pizza party. We all made this our goal to get whatever grade we needed.

In college good grades and learning is rewarded with a good GPA and scholarships. My goal is to learn and perform the best I can in all of my classes so I can get scholarships.
