I love learning about global citizenship. It is very true, everyone is a global citizen. You just decide whether you ignore this or not. We need to be Active and not ignorant to this. Our school are working very closely with the 17 global goals for sustainable development as they can be very much incorporated into everything you teach no matter what the age group or country you teach in. It is about people coming together to make a positive change.
When we visited the museum earlier this week I loved seeing the waste materials that had been found on the beach to be used for something positive like art.

My favourite quote of the day was, “Think globally act locally.”
Thank you Rita for making me remember the importance of embracing being a global citizen

A must watch

It was a fantastic opportunity today to visit a local school. It reminded me how important it is to teach our children how to be a positive global citizen. I will certainly ensure that I include the global goals in my planning. My favourite quote of the day was ‘The future of immigrant children is my future; our fates are connected. We have to teach children to know, to care and to act’.

Today we had the opportunity to visit a school, "L'École Mixte 1 Grand Camp" where we could know about how they teach and we could exchange opinions with teachers about daily problems and how to face them. We've talked about number of students per class, assistants and how they work with special needs pupils. We've spent all day in the school and the most wonderful moment was the French Quiz, where pupils of CM1 asked us questions to evaluate our French level with the vocabulary studied in the previous sessions. It was great for us and for the pupils too.
The quote: "Think globally, act locally"

I was very interested in the visit to the elementary school: Grand Camp Parc. We had the opportunity to talk with the teachers, canteen assistants and especially with the students. We have shared interesting experiences together.
In session 5 of the course we reflect about: What does it mean to be a global citizen..... We think that as teachers we don't have any choice nowadays: Everybody is a global citizen with its global values.
Most of us on the path to global citizenship are still somewhere at the beginning of our journey. Our eyes have been opened and our consciousness raised. Instinctively, we feel a connection with others around the world yet we lack the adequate tools, resources, and support to act on our vision. Our ways of thinking and being are still colored by the trapping of old allegiances and ways of seeing things that are not longer valid as they are used. There is a longing to pull back the veil that keeps us from more clearly seeing the world as a whole and finding more sustainable ways of connecting with those who share our common humanity.
(Kosmos Journal).

Everybody is a global citizen. What you need are self-awareness, empathy, conflict resolution and creative thinking - not too difficult. But you have the choice: only know about this or act like one.Acting like one is not too difficult either, because you don't have to change the world but you can start with very little things which you find in front of your own door.
Our day at school, talking with the teachers and working with the children was really a great pleasure.

Nowadays everyone is a global citizen - if you want or not! We are all connected e.g. by the internet, travelling or global problems. The decision we are able to make is wether we want to take part activity or not. So international learning becomes more and more important. That means that we need to fit young people for acting as global citizens to play a positive role in society.
Therefore they need skills. We should try to give them these. Our classroom today - a elementary school in Pointe-à-Pitre - was one of the schools where teachers and stuff try this. For example: They take part in several European projekts.

"You don't need to change the world - just start in front of your own door."
