Emma was patting the basketball. The sound of the basketball hitting the ground and bouncing back is distinct. Emma is shooting a basket and the basket hits the backboard. The basketball bounced back to the ground, Emma and Keenan looked at the basketball and ran to catch the basketball. Emma and Keenan reached out their arms to catch the basketball in the air. They both heard the vibrating and rattling sound. Emma asked Keenan, “What’s that sound?” with a smiley face. Keenan was tossing the basketball from his left hand to right hand and he replied, “ I don’t know.” Emma was running away from the garage to look for the sound. Emma ran, she looked back to Keenan who was running after her and she said to Keenan, “ Come on!” They went to the place where the sound was made and they found Oliver and the girl with glasses making the vibrating and rattling sound with a badminton racket. They placed the badminton racket on a table, pressed on the racket head and flicked the handle to make the vibrating and rattling sound. Emma was trying to flick the handle and made the sound while Oliver and Keenan were sitting beside her and looked at her. Emma looked at Oliver while she flicked the handle and she said, “ It sounds like thunder.” The group of children went to swing. The girl with glasses climbed the wooden ladder beside the swing and watched Oliver swing. She said, "Oliver is swinging on a swing and making a kind of funny noise." The girl with glasses looked at the carabiner, pointed at it with her index finger and said, “ that sound is coming from in there.” Oliver replied to her while swinging on the swing, “ See that rusted metal up there? I think it’s rubbing together.” Emma and Keenan were sitting beside the swing and banging wooden sticks. The girl with glasses narrated, “Keen and Emma were banging sticks and they made a nice noise.” The children went on a street and walked down the sidewalk. Oliver was banging the black steel fence with an empty plastic water bottle and made a sound. The girl with glasses said to him, "Wow, Oliver that was really cool! ” Emma tried with her wooden stick and made a low dangling sound. Oliver said, “ It sounded kind of like chimes.” Keenan was banging the fence with a toy shovel and it made a clattering sound. The girl with glasses said to him, “ Cool, Keenan, that sounded kind of a drum.” The girl with glasses is the last one to try banging the fence with a steel shovel. This can be seen in the anecdotal observation when they made sounds with a badminton racket. One of the children described the sound they made like thunder. They have also noticed the creaking sound made when they swung on a swing. One of the boys noticed that it was made by the rusted metal carabiner rubbing together. The other children were also making sounds by banging the wooden sticks. They also tried to bang the steel fence with different materials to make different sounds. The children were noticing the difference of each sound, using their own words and understanding to describe why and how the sound was made. According to Early Learning for Every Child Today, “ Preschool children are using sentences to describe objects and events and spontaneously using the language of mathematics, inquiry and reasoning as they play.” (2014, p.43) The four children in the video are using their vocabulary and communication skills to discuss the difference in sounds they made. They are also using their all senses while observing the sounds. According to Early Learning for Every Child Today, “ Preschool children are using all senses to gather information while observing.”(2014, p.47) This shows the children in the video are having typical development in the cognition area. By sensing and making sounds out of the accessible materials they have, they are having meaningful conversations about their interest and developing social skills. What Makes Sound? (Science & Sensory)

The items that I collected for children to make sounds will be displayed nicely on the table and the carpet beside the table. The bookshelf will be filled with children’s books about sounds. The whole setup for the classroom environment is welcoming, aesthetic, warm and transparent. Children’s works are posted and hang on the wall for documentation. Paintings of views and national flags created a sense of inclusion. 
There will be water bottles, handbells, call bell, keys, tambourines, shaker eggs, drums, maracas, xylophone and ukulele display on the table and carpet for children to select what they want to make sounds.

During this activity, I will be asking questions like, “What do you feel?”, “What do you think makes that vibration?”, “I wonder what ‘sound’ is?”, “ How can you describe the sound?” and “What sound do you like the most?” 

Children may have questions like, “ How did the sound become louder?”, “What makes the vibration stronger?”, “ Can I mimic the sound with my mouth?”
