I’m preparing to start my Civic Engagement Project in January, where I’ll be volunteering with the 6th grade park district basketball season. So far, I haven’t logged any service hours, but I’ve actively begun my preparations to ensure I’m ready when the season kicks off.

In preparation, I’ve been in touch with the volunteer coordinator at the park district to understand my responsibilities fully. I plan to take on roles like scorekeeping, helping set up the court, assisting coaches where needed, and being available to support the players and families on game days.

Though I haven’t started officially, I’m looking forward to putting in several hours each week once the season begins. I believe this experience will allow me to encourage health and well-being within my community, giving young players a space to build their confidence and connect with others through sports.

I still have zero hours logged for my CEP. My volunteering at the park district begins in January, so I am only focusing on the research aspect of the project until I can log hours in.

I am starting my volunteering in January. I have attended a training session for the Park District to learn the rules and regulations of the service opportunity. I am still focusing on the research aspect of my project, so that once I complete my hours I will have less work to complete as a whole.

I have started volunteering at the basketball league. I have worked last Saturday and the next two Saturdays from 9-1. I have seen kids work hard as teams and compete against each other while also learning how to become better basketball players.

I have got 12 hours of volunteering so far, and I will be getting my final hours this coming Saturday. I have been able to become better at scorekeeping and keeping track of the stats during the game. I’ve also seen kids go through many different emotions during their games, from losing a close one to winning by a lot of points.
