The purpose of an AUP is to provide guidelines for students and teachers to increase learning opportunities and prevent exposure to inappropriate material. For this district specifically, they state: "USD 435 is committed to providing learning opportunities for the students. We believe that the use of technology and the internet will increase opportunities for learning in this district.

USD 435 recognizes that it is impossible to restrict all access to controversial materials. We do comply with CIPA(Children’s Internet Protection Act) by filtering all internet content."

In this school district, their AUP is clear and concise. It is very easy to read and understand what their expectations are. It is written well and not too confusing for students to read.

At the end of USD 435's AUP they explain what will happen if policies are broken. At the beginning they also explain the importance of their AUP. I think both of these areas are important because it states their purpose as well as how they will handle policies being broken. Their opening statement is listed in the purpose section of this post. Their ending statement where they address broken policies is, "ANY USER ENGAGED IN UNACCEPTABLE USE OF THE INTERNET AND NOT USING PROPER NETIQUETTE, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ACCESS TO THE INTERNET. THEY ARE NOT ONLY SUBJECT TO LOSS OF NETWORK PRIVILEGES BUT MAY BE SUBJECT TO OTHER DISTRICT DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.

If you have questions, concerns, or wish to not have your child participate in the internet activities please call your child’s school." I also think this statement is important because they allow for the parents to reach out with any questions or concerns.

I believe that this district did a great job at being specific. Throughout reading it, I did not feel as though there was anything missing that I had expected to see. It is written out specifically what the expectations are.
