Haiti has a generally hot and humid tropical climate. The north wind brings fog and a little bit of rain which messes up Haiti's dry season from November to January. But during February through May, the weather is super moisturized. Northeast trade winds bring rains during the wet season. The average annual rainfall is 140 to 200 cm, but it is unevenly distributed.

Farming chemicals are widely used in Haiti. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) reported in 2010 that some farmers, unable to afford other formulas, and have used DDT, a banned formula for crops. These chemicals, plus the use of oil with high lead content, are a big source of pollution. Haiti also has basically no supplies of potable water. Frequent hurricanes and tropical storms are dangerous and sometimes deadly distructive threats to the nation's environment. The four major storms of August and September 2008 caused flooding that killed around 793 people, destroyed about 23,000 homes, and damaged more than 84,000 structures. Deforestation and soil erosion left many mountains vulnerable to mudslides

Two-fifths of all Haitians depend on the agricultural sector, mainly small-scale subsistence farming, which remains vulnerable to damage from frequent natural disasters.
