From the text I can infer that the main character is selfless. In the text she states "I wasn't happy about the situation, but I was glad that Betty had chosen to devil me instead of Ruth, who was smaller than I was and dainty. And I had brothers who had inflicted worse upon me, while Ruth had none." In this case the narrator is proving my inference correct because she is saying she would herself deal with the pain, rather than Ruth because she has experienced worse at home.

By what we are told about Betty I can infer what she will do throughout the story. I think that Betty will continue to be rude to the main character throughout the story. Her behavior could also escalate. She could go from near harmless pranks to violence. I also wonder what the main character would do if Betty does something to Ruth considering how much she cares about her as her friend.

I am noticing that Wolk is very descriptive about what the characters look like and what the main character is thinking. The text states " I sometimes pictured him huddled in a trench while a thousand German soldiers ran around topside with bayonets fixed and spikes on their helmets and blood lust in their eyes." Wolk is very good at putting a image in your head. for example you can imagine what it must feel like to be in the situation with the soldiers. She also describes every detail about the characters. It is very easy to just imagine someone like Toby tall with a big coat, long dark hair and a beard with guns on his back because of how Wolk details them.

In the text she Annabelle states" ... black oilcloth coat and his black boots, long black hair and beard, and always three long guns slung across his back." This sentence puts a very vivid image in your mind of what Toby looks like. It almost makes you a little afraid of Toby because of the way the author describes him. Also the imagery is so vivid that it makes it seem like Toby is in your backyard walking with his long black oilcloth coat and guns slung across his back.

However, with Betty's threats of trying to hurt her brothers Annabelle is keeping up with them. In the text Annabelle states " When my brothers ran off ahead of me the next morning, I ran too and kept them close to me-and me close to them." When she says this Annabelle is displaying great care for her brothers because rather than letting Betty hurt her brothers she is trying hard to protect them.

Considering that all the boys in the school listen to Andy some might consider him sort of the boss around the school. No one has probobly ever talk back to him or have an argument with him except for Betty. According to Annabelle, " By now, Andy looks so baffled that I concluded no girl girl had ever spoken to his this way. Not even his ma." Andy was most definitely shocked that a girl would talk to him like this. In my mind I think that this situation made Andy gain some respect for Betty even though this is their first time meeting. This is also why I think Andy even gave Betty the seat in the first place aswell. If Betty hadn't surprised Andy in the way she did he probobly wouldn't have gotten up and would have told her to sit somewhere else.
