I guess it's not exactly outdoors, but it is likely put out during the summertime at times, so I wanted to include it in. She had been talking about how beautiful the flower was and how it kind of looked like a wedding dress, my uncle also was talking about how the flower may not have been getting as much sunlight as it needed, and therefore how the colour might be a bit different from what it might supposed to be. This kind of interested me so i took a picture of it. 

I guess the questions it raised for me primarily was why the colours were the way that they were? why is the middle purple and the petals white? what kinds of uses do the leaves/stem have and why do they look different from one from say a dandelion or a sunflower? What would happen if it was placed in a different area? And is it supposed to be a bit different than what we see right now? more white? more purple, another colour? with the petals pointed upwards? questions such as these. 

I think depending on the age range there could be a lot of different pieces of inquiry that could be raised. We would discuss where the optimal place to place a flower is close to the window, how different flowers may need different amounts of sunlight, not too much and not too little, we could look into what this kind of flower is and what is needed for this flower versus some other kind of flower, perhaps there could also be discussions as well, about how flowers can look like different everyday objects, we could do inquiry by looking at other flowers and seeing what kinds of clothing they might match to or even more broadly, how nature inspires what we make in art and in structures. We could draw pictures of flowers or plants in our own communities and label them. Some of the questions that it raises for me are why are you able to see the sun through these clouds and not through ohers? what might make it different? how do clouds form? what might you call this cloud? how does the sun light everything up? 

I think some possible points of inquiry could be touched upon how light refracts and can bounce off materials, as well as the differences between transparency, translucency and opaqueness, I think it would be interesting if we were to do an art activity around this, and create our own light sources and pictures similar to this. students could take their own similar pictures to this and there could be a discussion around that, maybe we could write stories about each of the pictures, or talk about the emotions they make us feel, the differences of light between morning and evening and also why that might change depending on the season. ]]> 2023-03-18 15:41:00 UTC https://padlet.com/kelseyannca/wx0e6opzmklh8txo/wish/2521745035
