Since the time i have started getting education and entering inro a professional life as teacher, I have experienced so many changes in the development of the education in my learning and professional career. As a students I always looked at the outer world as place where solution to every problem can be found. Being a part of third world, I thought that the modern world has to always support us on different issues like draughts, floods and earthquakes. In this regard I think my experience relates to Mesa's 1st generation of global education: The Charitable and Assistance based approach. Later in my life as a college student my approach changed to solidarity based approach (Mesa's 3rd generation). It involved more awareness on global issues like energy crisis, control over oceans, international activism and environmental problems. At present, as a teacher my approach has totally transformed to Mesa's 4th generation Human and Sustainable Development. The collapse of the ecosystems, global weather disasters, rising temperature and sea levels and the depletion of water resources are the major outcomes of the climate change and all caused by the human activity.
All 17 sustainable development goals are of fundamental and core importance however, in terms of urgency, climate change has the superior significance.  The pre Monsoon rains triggered the most severe flooding in Pakistan’s recent history, washing away villages and leaving around 3.4 million children in the need of assistance and at increased risk of waterborne diseases, drowning and malnutrition. The scientists have claimed that the global warming has increased the intensity of rainfall in these recent flooding events. Many of the hardest-hit areas are amongst the most vulnerable in Pakistan, where children already suffer from high rates of malnutrition, and poo access to water and sanitation. As a matter of fact, the climate crisis does not affect everyone equally. Children suffer more than adults with those in the poorest communities bearing the biggest burden. To avoid such daunting situations in future, immediate and effective steps need to be taken by all stakeholders of the world. Individuals and communities of the world must take effective measures of reducing the production of HCFC and emission green house gases. Moreover, the clean resources of energy must be adopted.  As Pakistan is the one of the most vulnerable countries regarding climate change therefore, Climate Action is the most important SDG in my context.

It enables people around the globe to evolve the sense of responsibility towards global issues and thinking beyond themselves. In my school Presentation Convent High School Jhelum, Pakistan, a great emphasis is laid on the awareness and understanding of global issues and becoming a part of the global community. DevEd is not a part of the curriculum however, students get to know about the global community through different subjects like Geography, Ethics, Social Studies, and Religion. In this regard I would like to mention one of the splendid contributions of Presentation Sisters, teachers, and students. Presentation Sisters work in collaboration with Holy Childhood Organization, which is a non-profit agency that serves more than hundreds of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization was initiated in 1946 by Sr. St. Mark McMohan after realizing the need of special education for the children. 

Initially, the focus was on Education and Vocational Training.  This focus remains the same today and a multitude of programs have been added.  In the School Program and the Adult Program, academics and program areas such as Activities of Daily Living, integration in the community through Work-Based Learning, Supported Employment and many other individualized programs continue to help prepare people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for an independent, happy and fulfilling life. As a part of this organization a special training and education is given to students at our school from the beginning of the academic life. Various programs are organized by the school management in which students are given an awareness about their roles and responsibilities as children to help the children of the other countries as the core theme of the program is ‘Children helping Children’. Apart from the awareness programs, children participate in fund raising for the children of other poor counties. The donations collected by the students reach many parts of the world through sisters and is utilized for education purposes.

In this regard our school had to face serious problems in first choosing the right platform for delivering the lessons and secondly to make sure that all students have proper access to that medium. Even after trying harder, many students failed to join the educational stream through virtual platforms. Moreover, many teachers also struggled to shift from physical to online classes due to lack of IT knowledge. Therefore, after recovering from the Pandemic effects, a great emphasis was laid on equipping the students as well as teachers to gain adequate knowledge and the basic skills of IT. Now, computer classes are arranged in the school for the teachers occasionally to learn new techniques and skills. There will dramatic inventions in the field of science and medicine. As a result of advanced medicine there will be no more diseases that will result in the life expectancy. In terms of sustainability, a huge progress would have been made. Most of the SDG’s would have been achieved. As per much scientific research, the environment will make its ‘come back’. The mother nature will maintain its equilibrium through replenishment and survival. It would also be an era of genetic sustainability, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Most of the human activities would be performed by the machines. The life of human beings would all depend on the machines and robots. Due to advancement in genetics, there will be more production of healthy crops. Therefore, there will be no shortage of food. The environment would be much greener and cleaner. There would be much progress in the social, cultural civilization. The countries, economies, communities, and cultures would be more integrated. The sense of global citizenship that we talk about now a days will be the main subject and all other subjects will come under that umbrella. People on the globe will have more optimistic attitude towards each other and towards mother nature. There will no sign of intolerance, inequality, or injustice. God has created this world in a unique way where the nature has an ability to reset itself and go in self-sustainability and self-cleaning mode.  In short, in my view, the world be completely a different and better place to live in.

As described by Hart 1992, decision making and participation is the fundamental right of citizenship. I learnt to take decisions in my late teen age. When I entered the college, I decided the subjects I wanted to study. Though it was a very tough decision as I had very little knowledge about the subjects and there was no assistance from anyone. However, with the passage of time I got more experience, exposure, and strength to make decisions. Last year, when I was given the opportunity to go to Ireland for higher studies, I had to think a lot to take decision and say yes as I had to leave behind my 1 and a half years daughter. I had to look at the opportunity from various angles and to see the expected outcomes for my family. Then I consulted my husband and my closest friend and asked for their guidance. They helped me to understand the importance of the opportunity and gave me courage to say yes. The support of my husband was more empowering. So, I took the most important decision of my life of going abroad and studying.
Whenever I have to make decisions in my life I look at the positive and negative aspects of the decision. Then I give myself time to understand and examine the expected outcomes of the decision that will directly or indirectly influence my life and life of the people associated with me. I feel I have grown more mature, broad minded and persistence in decision making as compared to when I was 18. I have learnt to control my emotions and thoughts and remain composed and calm during the decision making process. As a science teacher, come across many topics in which, the reference of climate change and climate action is needed. Taking the advantage of such situations I always encourage students to think critically about the damages that have been done to the environment and to what extend they agree that human activities are responsible for these severe damages. I put forward some thought provoking questions that can trigger their thinking process and enable them to think beyond the book. Sometimes I give them the topics like global warming, impact of industrialization of the environment, use of CFC's, use of plastic, globalization etc. and persuade them to do search for information and share in the class. Recently, we celebrated the environmental day in the school. The students were asked to make projects that are based on theme of ‘recycle, reuse, and reprocess’. The students energetically participated in the projects and made exceptional models. They were displayed in the corridor of the school and projects with more deep and critical thinking were awarded with prizes. Till now, my methodology for teaching climate change was more based on giving awareness to the students regarding the issues and how we can tackle them however, after this week’s lesson my approach towards teaching theses topics will be different. I will introduce the concept of climate change by enable them to differentiate the right and wrong information. I will explain them the importance of addressing and communicating the climate issues and concerns. By developing this sense among the students, I will be able to raise individuals who will be more responsible, vigilant and sensible towards the climate variabilities.
