TTS, Anisa’s hope during her travels reminds me of my hope during COVID. Anisa was hiding away from nearly everyone, only putting her trust in people guiding her through the war. Even after all she had been through, after all the horrible things that had been thrown at her, she was still hopeful. I was also like that in the stage 4 lockdown. I was hiding, scared of catching the microscopic murderer, but I stayed hopeful, even though I only trusted the people helping me get through the virus.
TTT, This whole book reminds me of Anna’s diary, called Kitty. In Kitty, Anna is a Jewish girl that was hunted down by Hitler’s army, Japan’s army, and Italy’s army. Anna had her family had to hide in a abandoned house, and every day, Anna wrote in her diary. Similarly, in the book Anisa’s Alphabet, Anisa is stuck in a war and they have to hide. She makes up a alphabet on her journey to escape the way with her family. Unlike Kitty, though, Anisa runs away and takes refugee at a refugee camp.
TTW, The wall at the end of the book reminds me of Donald Trump’s wall and The Great Wall Of China. Like the wall in the book, both walls, I think, we’re built to protect from the neighbouring country’s. Unlike the other walls though, that wall was small and weak, compared to the massive concrete wall of America and the 6000km stretch of the hulking wall of China.

T-T-T:This book reminds me of the resent events in the news,in the Middle East. Because it has the same conditions as I saw on the news and they are all super scared in the refugee camp.Like being bombed near by and running from danger. Even I was scared watching the news.Watching it is just terrifing.T-T-S:This kinda remindes me of my Mum because she moved to Australia from England making her a refugee like Anisa. She was born and grew up in Cheshire England. She went on multiple family holidays to Australia then in 2001 she moved officially to Australia. My Mum lived on Champman st (I think) then moved to just opisit NMPS then finally to Lancashire lane. She may not has lived in as bad contitions but she is still a refugee.T-T-W:I can connect this to the millions of people living in refugee camps. Some kids some adults. Anisa is living in a refugee camp like all those othe people. Lots of those people don’t have that much money are scared or depressed. Soon I hope this horrible horror will be solved.

Text to self: I relate to a Anisa because when I left Canada even though we had put most of the things in the truck, I still had to carry two suitcases and a itchy bag. I already felt angry and Gloomy, having the itchy bag repeatedly stabbing my shoulder made me feel even worse, so I can feel her a emotions two, but mine was certainly a lot nicer. She also reminds me of camp when we did a competition and they was single activities and every time we did a single activity we got an x on our hand, if we already did we could not do another single activity. A single activity was an activity that you had to do alone. The activity’s where basketball, archery rock climbing and other stuff like

Text to world: My text to world is the worlds water crisis , because of the image where she is carrying a bucket. This makes my wonder where she got the water from because it looks like she is in a desert. I imagine that the Africans that are going threw the water crisis at the moment maybe are in camps, maybe are not.

Text to text: This book reminds me of how to smile more from A to Z, because that book also mentions to imagine regularly. It is also similar to this book because it tells a story as well as a sort of way to be happier I guess. It reminds me of wolf girl, her house got bombed, she went to a camp twice and escaped them both. It is similar to other settlement and war stories I have read, leaving you with full stops on sentences that do not sound finished but describe others more.

“Anisa’s Alphabet” connections B)

Text to text:

It reminds me of the books mum gave me when I was a little

Boy that where about the alphabet. It also relates to those poor people who are pushed around and killed during wars.

I’ve also read a book at a library that was in the wrong section on genre. But I still read it and it was about people living in corrupt or countries in war that had to cross half the world to get to a safe place.

Text to world:

I remember going to that park near the North Melbourne pool with my sisters friend and her dad. Their family was Vietnamese, he explained to me and mum what his life was like in the past as being in war and escaping jail and coming to a good safe place like Melbourne. Which is related to the war related things in the book that got read aloud to us. He explained the pain he had to go through and the walls he ran into on his way to a happy life. He succeeded but it was really sad to hear what he had been through. I can relate this to something that was in the news about some country getting hit by a huge barrage of missiles which sent the town into panic.

Text to self:

I could connect this book to documentaries and movies that are related to this sort of harm to people with no power and no good and healthy lifestyle. I have sometimes wondered in bed at night what it would be like and what I would to if I were in a situation like these people are in. But the thoughts I think are gruesome and horrible with a lot of pain, death and sadness. Other than that most people still try and save themselves because they have limitless hope to survive and live happily ever after in a safe place.

Written by, Laurence 8)

Anthony. Text to text. this book reminds me about a book the boy in the back of the class, they are both about a kid who is in a country with war, so they have to travel around the world and the also both have to leave their family. But they both keep having hope. However the boy in back of the class found friends and fitted in. Unlike anisaText to world. this reminds me of ww2 and the bombings and how lots of innocent people got killed for no reason. It’s also like how Nagasaki and Hiroshima got bombed, and how the people who did survive lost their loved ones and were scarred for life. This is different though, in ww2 people just lost their loved ones, but in anisasAlphabet she ran from the bombs but still lost her mum.Text to self. This book is like how when I moved house cause a event happened, in the text it was about anisa and how she had to move cause of war, for me it was because my mom and dad broke up. Another big difference is that in the book anisa was treated badly when she was moving but for me, it was good. Cause I didn’t have to live in hot tents and almost drowned in a boat.

Anisa’s Alphabet 17/5/2021 Matilda

Text to self

I have never been in a war or attacked by other countries, unlike this book. But there might be a time where I will experience a nightmare like this. I have been on a boat and had been scared that it was going to drown. I have been on a very old ride in Lunar Park and I thought it was going to collapse since it was so wobbly. I become hopeful if something good is likely to happen. I have felt scared if I’m alone for a while, I imagine Anisa being terrified. I have not been left alone at night and not been in big danger.

We have all experienced fear at least 5 times in our life, but this book was about growing more scared.

Text to text📖💙

It reminds me of a text we read last year called “The boy at the back of the class.” It included a refugee just like this book. This book reminds me of a book my friend recommended called “Wolf Girl” and apparently it is about a young girl getting stranded because her parents left her when people were attacking her country. In this book she was stranded and scared, just like Anisa.

In the series of unfortunate events, the children felt afraid and scared like Anisa since their parents were gone. I have read a bit of wolf girl and her family also carrys and packs everything they can.

Text to world

That wars happen in a lot of countries, it’s very dangerous and bombs are currently being used on a country. The history of the whole world has had a lot of wars and fights, bombs and smoke included. Those people in wars had to flee in midnight and take whatever they could. I can imagine seeing a bunch of refugees on the news, in hot white tents, just like the book. The book also reminds me of scary events that happen in real life.

Text-to-self:

The text reminds me of when I meet a refugee. This reminds me of the text because the main character is Anisa and is also a refugee. I met the boy a long time ago though. I don’t remember what country he left but I now the boy is now happily living in Australia and likes over here. This person is similar to Anisa because they are both refugees but they are different because the boy I met has a place to live unlike Anisa, who is still trying to find a home.

Text-to-text:

Anisa’s Alphabet reminds me of a book I read back in grade 4 called The Boy at the Back of the Class. The book is about this new kid who is a refugee from Syria and goes to a new school. The new kid meets some other kids who help guide him through school and they become best friends. Similarly, Anisa’s Alphabet is about a girl who is a refugee even though Anisa is still trying to find the home whereas the kid in the boy in the back of the class has found a home. The story’s character is can of like the girl who is called Anisa and has to go through multiple challenges to get to her new home

Text-to-world:

Since Anisa is a refugee, she probably had to escape from a place experiencing terrorist attacks. In the world, there are many terrorist attacks. Most of them happen in Israel even though they happen all around the world. This makes me very sad to think of all the people getting bombed. Like the story, most of the things happening in the book actually happen in the real world.

There life’s are being wasted just on a dumb WAR!

Text-To-Text:
This book isn’t similar or doesn’t remind me of any book.

T-S

I feel sad that Anisa has to go through being a refugee. I think more people in charge should stand up for refugees. It reminds me of kangaroo island in Australia were refugees in Australia are forced to go to or leave the country. I think it is really unfair that depending on were you live and if you have a passport for another country or not you are treated differently.
T-T
This book reminds me of a number of different types of books like those alphabet books for little kids. It also reminds me of history books and war books. It especially reminds me of a series of books by Morris Gleissman or something like that. In the books by Morris Gleissman there are 2 people running away from a war.
T-W
This book reminds me of a lot of real life issues. Like homelessness and refugees not being able to find a home. Even though there are still lots of problems I think we are moving forward to solve them like shelters and more country’s allowing refugees in there country.

Both of the books also relate to real life problems. This book also reminds me of day break. Both also have art in them, Anita draws with crayon and the girl in day break uses paint.

Text to world: this book reminds me of world war 2 and how there were many refugees coming to Australia and many other places. Many also died in the war and many also died in boats. The book talked about bombs, and in wars they have bombs and weapons too. There was a page in the book where it looked like only the mother and the girl left, in war this would also happen. families separated for the best and were sent off.

Text to self: this book reminds me of my grandparents being refugees from the Vietnam war. My parents told me they spent months on a crowded boat just like in the story. Also like in the story my grandparents had to sleep on the ground with very little space. My grandparents also kept a notebook and documented the things that happened just like the girl, but the girl drew pictures. I was also told that they didn’t have much food so they had to eat very little at a time.

Text to Text
In this book, there are many pages where the Anisa draws picture. This reminded me of Day Break. The reason why is because there is a page in Day Break where the protagonist paints the Australian flag. They remind me of each other because they are both art. The only difference is that Anisa draws with crayon and the protagonist of Day Break paints.

Text to Self
In this book, Anisa frequently imagines a good future. This reminds me of now, since I am imagining how I am going to go to Tasmania in the holidays. The only difference is that Anisa does it in a time where she is in a refugee camp or detention centre. I, on the other hand am in a normal time. Another difference is that we imagine different things.

Text to World
This reminds me of World War ||. All of them connect with being unsafe.

Text to world
In lots of different places lots of people turn into refugees. People who are refugees do not want to be refugees.

Text to self
This book reminds me of when I played a game called flee the facility. In the game you flee from a hunter / beast that tries to kill you and your teammates. In the game, you hack computers to unlock the doors that you go into to flee. There is only 1 hunter/beast that hunts you down. It reminds me of that game because Anisa’s alphabet also flees from something/some people that try to take her down.

TEXT TO TEXT
This book reminds me of when we read Stand up speak up because of the strong feelings the author puts into the two books that makes the two very powerful and strong. Both books include how the world treats different people differently and that isn’t fair. I believe that we should treat all kinds of people no matter what they believe in or what skin colour they have and it makes me feel mad about how the world and us do this. We need to change our actions and behavior to others.

TEXT TO WORLD
This book reminds me of in World War II, the Nazi killed many Jews based on what they believed and their religion they have. The Nazis were lead by a man named Adolf Hitler. Did you know that he, Adolf Hitler actually fell in love with a Jewish girl? It’s weird but true and it made me wonder ‘why do we treat people unequally?’ And that really needs to change because in the war, millions died and that makes me wonder ‘why did we even start a war?’ So that’s why it reminds me of it.

T-S this reminds me of when I learned about the history of Australian. As well as the time my mum told me about here indigenous Australian friend when she was young. As well as the time I visited a museum for the first time. As well as life in general and what horrible things I might be doing with out knowing. The book is a non fiction fiction which I enjoy.
T-T this reminded me of stand up speak up. Because it was short but meaningful. It made me think about life in general. With the sayings and hints of what it meant. That John told us it added a feel to it.
T-W It made me think of how the indigenous Australians must have felt when there land was taken over. Not to mention how the kids felt. Or they realized history was lied to say. They gave the British empire this land. Not they tried their best to defend this land but the British empire ended in victory.

Text to Text
The text "Anisa's Alphabet" and "When we say Black Lives Matter" remind me of each other because in both texts they weren't wanted and WERENT accepted. But in "When We Say Black Lives Matter" they had protests, but in "Anisa's Alphabet" they didn't have protests. Also "Anisa's Alphabet" had boat scenes and "Whenwe say Black Lives Matter" didn't. "Anisa's Alpahbet" also reminded me of "Day Break" this is because in "Day break" there is a certain page we're the white people are coming, this also had a boat scene. All these books connect with each other in different ways.

Text to Self
In the book "Anisa's Alphabet" they road a refugee boat to try and get to safety. This book reminded me of when I went on a sail boat, it was really scary and it kept shaking I thought I was going to fall off. I was about 8/9 at the time and I went this my sister and her friend's family. The boat was small and could only fit around 5 people including me and my sister. The difference between me going on a sail boat and Anisa going on a refugee boat is that she had hundreds of people on her boat and I had 5, also she was running away from danger on the boat but I was just going for fun.

Text to World
There are lots of refugees in the world, just like in the book "Anisa's Alphabet". In the book there is also a page we're anisa says "something I never wanted to be" because she didn't want to be a refugee. Same in the real world, people don't want to be refugees they just want to be safe. Anisa was only a young girl, just like many other refugees which makes me upset to know kids like me have to go through all that trauma just to be safe. It upsets me even more to know sometimes they get to the safe place but aren't aloud to get in. This book is fiction but is really based on real life, but it is important kids read books like these so they know how PRIVELGED they are. In some ways this book makes me very grateful for were I am today, and that I am safe in my country.

Text to Text= 5 sentences
Text to Self= 5 sentences
Text to World= 7 sentences

Text to world: The part in the book about the bombs reminded me of the world wars. I think that bit in the book might be about the Afghan war. The Afghan war is still going on to this day. The book talked about escaping and running from the war, and that is why I was reminded of the world wars. The world wars consisted of a huge amount of hiding and running away.

Text to text: This book is quite like the Black Lives Matter book. They both relate to people wanting more freedoms, or in some cases people just want a better, more respected life. In the Black Lives Matter book it talks about this in the form of protesting. In the Anisa’s Alphabet it is a bit different and it talks about this in the form of escaping and trying to find a new life. I know they are different topics, but they share the same purpose to me.

Text to self: This book reminds me of when I went to an ACMI exhibition on refugees. At the exhibition I learnt about the Vietnam war, and how the refugees went on boats. These boats normally sank and people on them rarely survived. This is like what happens in he book where the girl goes on a boat that is very rickety and in a storm the boat breaks. The people on the boat still get to safety though; or at least some of them did.

They are both about Indigenous Australians been treated unfairly. But they also have a lot of differences. The book “when we say Black Lives Matter” mainly want to persuade us that Black Lives Matter. And the book “Anisa’s Alphabet” want to tell us about Anisa’s visualisation about the long journey that she has been attack and has to find a new home.

Text-to-self
One of the pictures in the book, which is Anisa’s drawing, reminds me of me and my sister’s drawings at home. In the book, Anisa put her visualisation in her drawings. And my sister and I put our visualisations in our drawing as well. My sister is only in grade 1, but she once draw a very meaningful drawing. In her drawing, she put the Indigenous Australians and one side, and the white Australians at the other side. Then she drew a white dove that has a green wheat in its mouth. And she said that she wants them to be peaceful.

Text-to-world
One of the pictures in the book shows the view of the campsite. Which made me thought of ski camping in September.

Anisha’s alphabet

T-T-T:

The book reminds me of, “when we say Black Lives Matter” because both texts talk about how they are being treated differently from normal people. The difference between the two texts is that in Anisha’s alphabet it says she was treated differently because of a war going on where she lived while in “when we say Black Lives Matter.” They were treated differently because of their skin tone.

T-T-W:

It reminds of the Israel vs Palestinian fight gong on because in anisha’s alphabet a war was happening so she had to leave her home. In Israel people had to go to bomb shelters and watch their homes blown into bits and pieces of hard brick. The story and real life both include that people have to leave their home to be safe from the treacherous war going on where they lived or near where they lived.

T-T-S:

I have no idea why but it somehow reminds me of the fire that went around in Australia in 2020. I think it reminded me of this because during the bushfire thing was going on it felt as if Melbourne just got nuked because the air was all red like a mushroom cloud and everyone was walking around carrying face mask to protect them from the deadly air. In Anisha’s alphabet the sky also had a dim red colour.

We got scared in the tents because we thought there was a monster, we talked all night and we also drew all night. The texts are similar because we almost did the exact same thing in the story. They are different because we did all of those together, while Anisa did them one by one. For example, at one time of the night she drew, one time of the night she talked and me and my cousin did them altogether. I felt sad when I read this text because it is a story about war after all.

Text to text

This story Is about war, So it reminds me of when I watched a girl and her family going to Israel where all the War was going on. It made me feel this way because I felt all the emotions anisa felt when she was a refuge. When she escaped when she was on a boat, when she was saved. And to see all of the damage and too realize that this was happening in the world just made me devastated. It made me feel safe as well. Because I am in a safe country.

Text-to-Text
Anisa's Alphabet reminds me of When We Say Black Lives Matter because of the colour palette. Both books have dark or gloomy colours in their illustrations when they are talking about upsetting things. I think colour palettes help display a message to the reader without having to use words.

Text-to-World
This book definitely reminds me of people having travel to a different country because their own homes were not safe enough to continue living in. I have watched a few documentaries about refugees. In these documentaries, the main reason they had to leave was because there was a war.

Text-to-Self
This makes me think of being on a plane and feeling scared or concerned that on the way to our destination, something would malfunction or go wrong. The people in Anisa's Alphabet must have felt so much worse. Their only shelter was an old boat, and I don't think they really knew where they were going.

It reminds me of this because both of these stories include being forced to leave your family and or home.
Text to Self:
This book reminds me of how lucky Australia is, because other places like Pakistan are in danger of getting bombed, but we don’t seem in any immediate danger.
Text to World:
Expanding on my last connection, other places like Pakistan are in danger of getting bombed by places like Israel. It makes me sad that we live in a society where there are still people that don’t feel safe where they are.

I was scared stuck at home. But now in 2021 we have a better handle of the virus.

Text to text
This book reminded me of the boy in the back of the class book that we read in grade 4. It was a refugee called Armit who ran away from his home because of a war that went ahead.

Text to world
This book reminded me of the refugees that seek for shelter running away from their home for safety. Many people say they ‘Take up so much of our time’Or ‘They take up to much space’.But they need somewhere to go to be safe for whatever is happening back at their home place.

This is a text to world and text to text because I am Palestinian and this revolves around me and my people and because this is all around the world on news. Both lands are fighting for more and none of them have succeeded but it’s really sad that they are doing this.
