Title: The Giver
Author: Lois Lowry

Introduction: The Giver is a science fiction story about a boy who must choose between his pain-free life and a more colorful one.

Summary: In a perfect society, not everything is as harmonious as it seems. A young boy named Jonas discovers the joy and pain he has been missing out on his whole life and he wants to bring that to others.

Characters:

Jonas - eleven year old boy
The Giver - old man who transmits memories to Jonas
Mother - Jonas's mother who works in the Department of Justice. Not his real mother.
Father - Jonas's father who is a Nurturer. Not his real father.
Lily - Jonas's 7 year old sister. Not his birth sister.
Gabriel - a sick baby that Jonas's father brings home and that Jonas grows close with.

Plot:
Jonas lives in a "perfect" society without colors, war, or emotion. At age 12 he is given the title Receiver of Memory when he learns about the world outside from an elderly man named called the Giver. He also learns about death, which nobody in the society knows about. Jonas and the Giver devise a plan to free the society from its structure and bring the memories back to people. Jonas risks his life to escape and release the memories.

Evaluation and conclusion:
This is a very complicated story with lots of hidden meanings. It may be a warning against the idea of a "utopian" society because there is no such thing as a perfect society, and some people's ideas of perfect societies take away freedoms from other people. It's also about how important all emotions are, even bad ones, because they make the good ones that much more precious. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if they are considering going into politics.

Title: Holes
Author: Louis Sachar

Introduction: Holes is the story of a boy who turns his luck upside-down.

Summary: A boy named Stanley Yelnats is sent to a juvenile detention center called Camp Green Lake, where he discovers a mystery and makes new friends.

Characters:

Stanley Yelnats - main character, cursed, forced to dig holes at Camp Green Lake
Zero - Stanley's friend at the camp
Elya Yelnats - Stanley's great-great grandfather
Kate Barlow - an outlaw who robbed Elya Yelnats
X-Ray - scariest inmate at camp
the Warden - the head of the camp who forces juvenile delinquents to dig holes

Plot:
Stanley Yelnats is punished for a crime he did not commit because his great-great grandfather was cursed. He goes to Camp Green Lake, where the Warden forces all of the campers to dig holes. Stanley and his friend Zero realize the Warden is looking for something, probably buried treasure. When they run away from the camp, they learn about the story of Kate Barlow, an outlaw who killed people and robbed Stanley's great-grandfather. Stanley and Zero return to camp and find the treasure. Stanley is proven innocent and released from camp.

Evaluation and conclusion:
I think people of all ages should read this book. It is funny, sad, and has an unexpected plot twist. I like the way the different stories in the present and the past weave together. Reading Holes will make you think about what is bad luck and good luck, and may change your perspective.

Author: Lois Lowry

Introduction: Number the Stars is about the bravery of ordinary people who did courageous things in World War 2.

Summary: In Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1943, a young girl must help save her Jewish best friend and her family from the Nazis.

Characters:

Annemarie Johansen - main character, 10-year-old Danish girl
Mrs. Johansen - Annemarie's mother
Peter Nielsen - leader in the Danish resistance
Henrik - Annemarie's aunt
Ellen Rosen - Annemarie's best friend. She is Jewish.

Plot:
Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen are best friends and always walk to school together. When the Nazis start shutting Jewish businesses down and question the girls as they walk to school, the Rosen family realizes they must flee. The Johansens help them escape through a clever plan to hide them in a coffin and put them in Henrik's boat that he sails to Sweden. Along the way, Annemarie learns about the courage of the resistance fighters and the sacrifices her family has made.

Evaluation and conclusion
This is partly a historical fiction book because it contains elements of the true story of the war in Denmark, even though the characters did not actually exist. I would highly recommend this book because it puts you in the shoes of people who lived through the terror of the Nazis. It is also a story about the power of friendship, and anyone who has had a best friend can relate to the love between Ellen and Annemarie.

Introduction: Look Both Ways might remind you of something that you're going through right now, life.

Plot Summary:
Look Both Ways is cleverly made up of 10 short stories that take place in ten short blocks, on one school day. 10 different kids face everyday problems and this story will remind you to keep going, to remember to "look both ways" before crossing the street. Bullying, worrying about parents, and being brave are just a few themes you will find in this book.

Characters: Jasmine: has a blood disease.
Bit: leader of gang who pickpockets pocket change
Pia: skater girl
Fatima: writes in note book constantly to not be embarrassed by other kids
Bryson: plays Call of Duty (video game) a lot defend best friend
Simeon: best friends with Kenzi big for his age
Kenzi: best friends with Simeon small for his age
Cynthia: funny does "comedy shows" for classmates
Canton: mother controls traffic worried about her

Evaluation and Conclusion: I think people of all ages should read this book it's funny for kids but for adults or anyone who can see the bigger picture it's about life and the ups and downs of it. It is a realistic fiction book because everything in it can come true. In conclusion I highly recommend Look Both Ways, 5 star rating.

Title: Orphan Island
Author: Laurel Snyder

Introduction: Orphan Island is about an island and some orphans who are sent to the island, and every year a boat comes with a new kid on it, than the eldest has to go on the boat and sail somewhere, but they don't know where "it" is!

Summary: They live on an island in the middle of nowhere and have to make-hunt their own food, and there are only aloud to have 9 kids on the island, the eldest takes care of the youngest (who is new)..... but when its jenny(the eldest) time to leave does she really leave?

Characters: Jenny(the eldest), Ben,(person who cooks and next in line for eldest) Ess(Jennys care, basically then youngest)

Ending: in conclusion Orphan island is a thrilling and exciting book

introduction: unplugged is a story about a spoiled kid who ends up in camp that will change is life forever.

summary: Jett a spoiled rich kid whos dad is a mega billionaire. Has to go to a wellness oasis with there modo being BE WHOLE. When jet gets there they immediately take all of his electronics. he has to eat only vegetarian food. He absolutely hates it there. Then he meets some friends including Tyrell, Brooklyne, and Grace. Then they meet a cute little lizard named Needles. It seemed really easy to take care of needles but when they get vegetarian food for needles they figure out he is a carnivore so they have to go get meat which is banned from the oasis. So they go to hedge apple which is a little town down river. When they are at hedge apple they see a mega mansion then they start to investigate. Then they find something out that is crazy.

Introduction: Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation is the story of a girl named Charlie Thorne who is a supergenius on a race to find Einstein's lost equation.

Summary: Charlie Thone races to find Einstein's lost equation. A group who calls them selves the Furies are also trying to get the equation. Charlie is also not sure who is good and who is bad, secrets are hidden at every turn.

Plot: Charlie Thorne a super gienius works with CIA agents Dante and Milana to find an eqaution that save or destroy all life on earth. But another group who calls themselves the Furies are also trying to get the equation. Einstein (who made the equation) had feared that this would happen so he hid it, can Charlie find the eqaution befor the Furies and if they find it first...

Evaluation and Conclusion:
This book was super fun to read and had a wonderful story it is so far my favroite book people of all ages could read it and would like it depending on there intrests. This book s full of action, hidden secrets and advencher. Ihighly recomend it for any one who likes action and advencher. It's by Stuart Gibbs who is a grate author and wrote the funjungle and spy school books.

Introduction: City Spies is about a girl named Sara and she is a hacker who becomes a spy and has to solve a mystery with the help of her young agent friends.

Plot Summary: Sara Martinez is a very skilled hacker but, when she tries to tell people her foster parents are not nice, the police arrests her and sentence her to juvenile detention. Before that can happen, her crazy lawyer brings her to Scotland. There she learns to become a spy and sets out to solve mysteries with 4 new friends from around the world.

Introduction: The 52 Story Treehouse is a story about two best friends named Andy and Terry who live in a treehouse. They are on a mission to get their book published by the deadline!!!

Potato Prince- a potato crowned as prince at The Vegetable Kingdom.

Plot: Andy and Terry can't find their publisher Mr.Big Nose. They go to Jill for help, but she is asleep so they take her to the Vegetable Kingdom. They all get locked up and find Mr.Big Nose in Jail!!! They all escape and get ninja snails to bring their new book to the publisher's office in time for the dead line!!!

Evaluation & Conclusion: This book was fun to read, and a little silly. It made me laugh, but I'm not sure I'd read the whole series. The characters are fun and end up meeting their deadline. The 52-Storey Treehouse was published!

The games are a fierce, kill or be killed war-like competition that exists only to entertain the capitol, Panem.

Plot summary: Katniss Everdeen is a girl who lives in district 12, a very poor and hungry area. Her father died in a mine accident. There are 2 tributes which are representatives of their district they pick one girl and one boy per district she and a boy named Peeta Mellark who is the son of a baker are chosen. There are 12 districts in all she leaves for the capitol to compete she I in a wild a woody arena she and Peeta work together to win the games and have to make hard decisions to battle hunger and to stay alive.

Evaluation & Conclusion: I think this is an amazing thriller that will keep you on your toes the whole time.

Plot: Ivan is a gorilla who really wants to escape the mall zoo. then at the end he finally escaped to the forest. he had to cross the highway. Ivan did not do it alone, he did it with Ruby and bob, Ruby is a baby elefant and Bob is a chuawaw. he was eager to leave the zoo and then he finally go to!

Ending: in the end they finally make it to the jungle and are free, then they have to go to a zoo and make friends.

Greggs family go on an RV trip to get out of there house the Rv is a mess they clean it and there on there way they found a spot in the RV park and they were planning to stay there for a while that changed quick a huge storm hit the park and the park has a moat around it the bridge stock the stores there and it broke everyone took everything and Greg's family needs food so they tried to go river and the current was to strong it took them down steam

He tell his parents and they said we need to get out of here. Greg remembers the shallow spot of the river and they go there but the current pulled them down the river the Rv filles up with water and everyone gets on the roof.

Conclusion: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a great book with lots of twists and thrilling parts. Truly a great book to read.
