         <title>Guided Reading            15 Minutes</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Each group has a book match to their reading level, which they read to the teacher individually. The teacher will need sets of leveled books for the children to take home with them to read. The students will take turn reading portions of the book to the group. The teacher will be listening for phonemic awareness, as well as any patters indicating the student is struggling with certain sounds. This allows the teacher to check for understanding and make judgements about future lessons and assessments. This also allows parents to engage with their child's learning experience by reading the book with the child at home. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>These apps help develop phonemic awareness through sound recognition, sound comparisons, and syllable identification. They are unique for teachers because they are all leveled games, meaning that the students progress through the games at their own pace that matches their level of phonemic awareness.<br>1. "Osmo" (Require Osmo attachments) Students must place letter tiles under the camera to complete words.<br>2. "Partners in Rhyme" Students match words that rhyme.<br>3. "Syllable Count" Students must count the amount of syllables in a given word.<br>4. "Phonemic Awareness Bubbles" <br>This game requires students to compare sounds that are alike, or different.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students are given 4-10 foam letters and spell out words read aloud by an aide. "Making Words" Comes with 8 sets of foam letters, and 100 leveled worksheets designed to help students progress in phonemic awareness. The aide reads commands from the worksheet. For example, the aide may read, "The dog chased the tennis ball. Spell the word d-o-g." The students would then place their foam letters on the table, spelling the word "dog".</div>]]></description>

         <title>Phonemic Awareness</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The reason I chose phonemic awareness as my focus is because I believe that it is important that students have multiple means of engagement in this area. When students are learning sounds, it is important that they learn these sounds in a variety of ways. These lessons allow a student to learn sounds while playing a game, working with a teacher, or working independently. I also believe it important that students work at their own pace, which is why there are assigned groups and the activities for those groups is level-related material. The iPad apps are also designed to play in levels matching ones skillset. Every activity displayed provides accommodations for all students by being dependent on the individual students level of understanding. Worksheets are not handed out for the whole class, but rather individually handed out to each student so that students will not do worksheets that are too easy or too hard. These accommodations allows both high and low leveled students to work at a pace supplementing their progress.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Activities: Rhyming Bingo</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Rhyming Bingo<br>Standard game of bingo where children look for pictures that rhyme with the word  recited by the teacher. If there are students who are struggling, the teacher can go over words that rhyme with the  recited word.  <br>2. Weekly Spelling Bee<br>Students will receive a list of words each week that have the sounds and letter combinations seen during the week. The students study their list on their own time and compete in a spelling bee each Friday.<br>3. Weekly Sight Word Challenge<br>Students start with the first sight word list, containing words like "I" and "is" and study the words. When they pass list one, they move on to list two, and receive recognition for their achievement with something displayed on the wall, like a sticker. Sight words are not common sounding words so it is important that the students recognize these words on sight.</div>]]></description>
