We used a social media platform called "Edmodo". Since it is similar to Facebook it was easy to get used to it. Digital platforms played an essential role during this time, because without them this whole course would have been without any contact to American students and also would have been only half as good.

Usually some Germans and a couple of Americans were assigned into groups and then got a task to work on. Working together was rather difficult due to the time shift and a different attitude towards getting work properly done. But besides that it was still fun to exchange messages with the American students and casually talk about the current events in the United States and getting to know first hand opinions on multiple topics like the presidential election.

We also used Padlets in order to exchange pictures of traditions and events or used them for gathering information everyone then could see and work on.
Besides the already mentioned tools we created Voice Threads, which are like slide shows with the posibility to record a comment on a slide. That was useful to further explain to the Americans what they are actually looking at. Sadly, and only as far as I know, we did not get one back.

Besides the time differences and different attitudes towards work there were no major problems while working together. Even though we Facetimed once, I still would have liked to have a closer connection to the students, because it was a refreshing experience and also very educational to be in contact with native speakers and to see the difference between that and the English we learn in school.

Since I already knew a lot about the USA and spent a year there my opinion or point of view has not really chanced. Sure, many things have changed during that year, like the new President, but that is not Americas "fault" and I would not say that I like the United States less because of that misfortune. And the student also did not change my point of view, but rather stengthend the one that many often just belief and repeat what they are told with out thinking about it.

The number one topic that I enjodey the most and probably was the most informative and educational was the presidential election. I liked it so much because I was always up to date and knew exactly that was going on right now. Even though it was an important topic I do not belief that, with out the course, I would have spent so much time researching on that topic and I do not think that could have been able to discuss it with others on a basis but rather assumptions.

Since we were working with a school from Michigan, our main task was it to predict how the state will vote. In order to do that properly, we looked up the candidates, researched their campain, looked at how Michigan has voted in the past and we asked the students of our partner school about it.
In the end we came up with the prediction that Hillary Clinton would with the election. With that prediction we participated on a project called "Teach about US". Many schools made up predictions of different states so we could then come up with an overall prediction, which also was that Clinton would win. Obviously it turned out being wrong...

Another fun topic was the Voice Thread we made about the 4 different cities. I liked it because we could find out to us unknows facts on these well known cities and we were also able to work individually but also in a group for a long period of time. And in the end you actually saw what you have worked for the last weeks.

We researched facts like: Economy, culture, sports, multiculturalism or racism. In the end my group created a Voice Thread featuring the cities: St. Joseph, Detroit, Chicago and Ann Arbor.

I also liked working with the executive orders. But not because of getting to know what they are about but rather getting to know the American students opinion on them. It was interesting to see how the people, who are directly impacted by them react to them and state their opinion.
