This is my favorite quote for many reasons. First of all, I really appreciated the perspective of the quote. They took something that most people have one opinion about, and they turned it around to argue the other side. Haters are often viewed as mean people, but not everyone realizes that they're people too. And when Jesse Andrews writes "doesn't mean they don't love stuff, too." I think it really relates to two of the main characters, Corey and Wes. They have been struggling to find their type of music, so they've been "hating" a lot of things lately, but that doesn't mean they won't find a music they will love eventually.

Book Review from Booklist

Wes and his best friend Corey are attending jazz camp, and—let’s be blunt—they aren’t exactly standout musicians. But when they meet the mysterious Ash, who is driven by the beat of her own internal drummer, and have an epic jam session, they do what any teenager at a band camp wishes they could do: take off on a road trip for an unofficial tour. The three of them venture to various seedy venues in the South, cycling through all the highs and lows of a more established band: hookups, heartbreaks, unanticipated nudity, and drug-induced crazy times. Are some of the circumstances of the story preposterous? Quite possibly. But readers will be sucked into this story, a raunchy bromance in the vein of Superbad, which celebrates friendship and adventure. Andrews ’ knack for quippy, smart, and never-too-clever dialogue is a perfect match for this voice-driven book. Intertextual asides, whether lists of potential band names, fake Wikipedia entries, or screenplay-like flashbacks, only enhance this very of-the -moment novel. Effortlessly readable, deeply enjoyable, and, given the years since Andrews ’ fantastic debut, well worth the wait.

After reading the book review I agree with it. I feel that it overall sums up the book really well. The review describes the book very well in ways that I would have said as well. I especially liked that the review stated that the three teenagers had an "epic jam session". Although this was their first time playing together as a group, they obviously didn't sound as well as they hoped to. But despite the horrible sounds they were making, they truly bonded over the bad sounding music and just the fact that they enjoyed playing together. So if I had to phrase this scene, I would most likely call it "an epic jam session" as well.

In my opinion, I feel that music notes are a good image to symbolize the book. The book first took place at Jazz camp where Corey and Wes decided to continue their music career. They quickly realized that they may not be the best at jazz music but they were too scared to quit. Its not until a girl named Ash comes along to help them understand what kind of music they like to play. With this new open minded opinion, Corey and Wes soon find joy in their new music style and begin playing at gigs.

Throughout the book, Corey and Wes come upon many conflicts. These conflicts help them grow as characters in different ways. They have changed physically and mentally. One of the major conflicts that was demonstrated in my book was character versus character. Corey and Wes met a girl who is a big part of how they changed. In the end of the book, you would barely be able to recognize the characters after all the change they went through by dealing with the many problems that came their way.

For my additional element I chose a picture of 3 friends. In my opinion, I feel that it resembles my book very well. The three friends in the book, Corey, Wes, and Ash, effect each other throughout the story. Their friendship played a big role in the book. Although Corey and Wes have been best friends their whole life, and never even thought of making friends with a girl, have yet to learn from Ash. Not only did she help them open up about their personal interests, but their friendship created their future career as a band.
