• Explain the concept of sustainability in simple words for them to understand a little bit for like 5 minutes

Game: "Recycle Relay Race"

Objective: Teach kids about recycling and sustainability while encouraging teamwork and physical activity.

Materials Needed:

• 4 labeled bins (Paper, Plastic, Metal, Compost)

• A variety of clean, safe items (e.g., crumpled paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, banana peels, etc.)

• Cones or markers to set up a relay course

How to Play:

1. Set Up: Place the labeled bins at one end of the play area. Scatter the items at the other end. Use cones to create a relay path between the items and the bins.

2. Divide the Kids: Split the children into small teams (e.g., 3-4 kids per team).

3. Explain the Rules: Each team member will take turns running to the scattered items, picking one up, and deciding which bin it belongs in (Paper, Plastic, Metal, or Compost). They must then run to the bins and place the item in the correct one before tagging the next teammate.

4. Start the Race: The first team to correctly sort all their items wins!

5. Debrief: After the game, gather the kids and discuss why it’s important to recycle and compost. Explain how these actions help the planet

Kids find recyclable materials to be placed into the correct bin and find fake trash that can’t be recycled and placed into dustbin.

One day, Benny the Banana was super excited-he was going to be someone's snack! Timmy, a little boy, picked Benny* up, peeled him, and gobbled him up.

"Yum!" Timmy said. But then... uh-oh! He threw Benny's peel into the trash!

The peel landed next to an old grumpy soda can. "Psst, kid!" the can whispered.

"You should've composted that!"

Timmy blinked. "Composted?"

Just then, the peel wiggled and POOF!

A tiny green fairy appeared. "I'm the Compost Fairy!" she said. "Banana peels belong in compost bins. They turn into magic soil that helps plants grow!"

Timmy gasped. "Really? I thought trash was just... trash!"

The fairy giggled. "Nope! Some things can be reused or turned into something new.

She waved her wand, and the banana peel disappeared. "Now it's helping a tomato plant grow!"

From that day on, Timmy sorted his trash, and his garden became the biggest, happiest one in town-thanks to a magical banana peel and he lived happily ever after!

(1) Recycling relay race - Set up bins for different types of recyclables (plastic, paper, glass, etc.).

Kids bring items (you can use clean, safe materials like paper or plastic bottles) to the correct bin. Add a twist by making it a timed race or having them sort different items into the bins as quickly as possible.

(2) Cardboard corn hole- Students will throw a bean bag into a hole for a distance. They have to name the items for recycling first before they attempt throw. This is a fun activity for the kinesthetic learners.

(3) Bowling- Students will be given a bowling pin for them to throw on plastic bottles which will be used as bowling pins. Students to be taught on the importance of recyling plastic bottles.

(4) Magical box- Students will sit in a circie around a box. A game master will annouce one recyclable from the box and the students have to idenitfy from the box. Gamemaster if the item is recyclable or not. This is to raise awareness regarding sustainability.

Split children into 2 teams, one child will be blindfolded and will be holding all the papers.blindfolded child will soon 3 times before entering a maze. the rest have to verbally guide the child through the maze to the different boxes to put the paper inside the correct bin. 

Give them a time limit to make it more fun and to keep within the game duration

-have antiseptic cream,alcohol wipes,and plasters on hand

A gentle reminder of the following:

1. 3:10 - 3:30 pm: Dunman students to make way to your assigned venues (4E @ Pavilion & 4F @ First Skool CR) to set up your stations. The address is 489C Tampines Street 45, just outside the side gate of Dunman Secondary School.  

2. Stations must be ready by 3:30 pm at the latest.

3. 3:30 - 4:30 pm: VIA activities will take place with the kindergarten students. These activities should conclude promptly at 4:30 pm, with a simple sing-along activity to wrap up the program, if possible.

4. 4:30 - 4:40 pm: Dunman students will be responsible for clearing and packing up their stations.

Please keep both our Dunman students and the kindergarten children safe and happy during the activities, whether in the Pavilion or at the First Skool CR. Appreciate your help!
